Honeymoon ring?

Has anyone considered buying a cheap wedding band or set (i.e. Overstock or I saw some in Macy's today) to wear during times when you wouldn't want to get your actual ring dirty, lost, or stolen?  It's crossed my mind a few times that my ring is a little big after losing a few lbs since getting engaged and I will not swim or shower with it on due to the fear of losing it.  On my HM, I obviously want to be wearing at least a wedding band, but I'd hate to leave it in our room while we're gone all day...

So.. has anyone considered getting a "spare set"? Has anyone actually done so?  Not sure if it's at all common!

Re: Honeymoon ring?

  • Not really. I've kind of considered it for clinicals at the hospital because my ring doesn't work so well with latex gloves. but otherwise I don't worry about my ring. Never have.

  • I thought about it but I actually have a ring that I wear all the time on my other ring finger that looks like a wedding band so if I ever need to I use that. I agree with not wanting to go into the beach with it and wearing a different ring (I dont think another e-ring is necessary but a simple band wouldn't hurt). Just remember to lock it in the safe in your room!!!

  • Yes! I think its smart not to travel with it. I have one already that I bought for our previous travels.

  • I thought about getting one as well for situations such as our HM.  I don't want anything happening to it but my e ring fits pretty well so I'm not worried about it falling off.
  • No, my rings fit just right and I don't worry about losing them. The only time I have taken it for an activity was when we went rafting, but goig through a class IV rapid could for sure cause a person to lose a ring. We won't be doing any rafting on the HM though.

  • I purchased a cheapo band at a store a couple years ago to wear in place of my engagement ring when I go camping.  I can't stand not wearing anything on that finger now!  The ring looks cheap since it's just a thin band that has the word Love in script on top.  But it serves its purpose!

  • Glad to hear I'm not the only one :) I'm thinking I'll probably leave my rings home for the HM to avoid disaster but I'll definitely need at least a wedding band to fill the void!

  • I don't really worry about mine. I would just go get yours sized down so it fits properly and then you won't have to stress. If you do leave it in the hotel there should be a little safe in your room to put it in.

Trust me, I definitely want to do this!  The biggest problem is that they are both eternity bands with micropave diamonds so the jeweler said you can only resize once or twice (of course after FI bought the ring and we noticed it was a little loose after losing a few pounds).  I want to wait until at least a year after the wedding to see if I maintain this weight before taking the plunge to resize.

  • I got my ring sized again to get it snug enough so there will be no worries.  I am old fashioned in the ring world meaning "you dont take off your ring".  Some times career's wont allow for big type of rings but in my case I don't have to worry about that.  Getting a 2nd ring sort of takes away from the reality and sentiment of havinge "THE RING" if you get what I am saying.  Just get it sized, usually takes less than 2 weeks and you will be just fine :)

  • I never wear my ring while swimming in a lake or the ocean... But that is really the only time I take mine off.  Although I'm not too worried if I loose it or it gets stolen, that's what insurance is for :)

  • My e-ring isn't really expensive so I just plan to wear that.  I work at a summer camp and I'm not really worried about losing my ring, but everything gets dirty there and I'd rather keep the wedding ring clean.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • Yes. I bought a fake one to wear on the cruise. I also got a fake one for FI. I just didn't want to worry about losing it or something happening to it. So if we have fake ones then it's fine if something were to happen.

  • thats really not a bad idea.. even if you dont really take your ring off, things can still happen... you never know. it better to be safe then sorry i would think. even if your ring isnt worth a ton of money its still the ring you guy gave ya and it means a lot. so i would play it safe! :)
