FI and I locked ourselves out of our house. Like, at midnight..without our cell phones. It was really idiotic how it happened, but THANKFULLY we had a spare car key to use. We went to a hotel and tried to use their phone and phonebook to call a 24-hour locksmith but none were available in our area for some reason. Then some guy tried to teach us how to break into our own house, kind of creepy, and we were unsuccessful. So finally we gave up and went to my parents' house to stay the night. I almost gave them a heart attack at 2am ringing their doorbell. We felt so terrible but they were completely understanding.
Then in the morning we came back to our condo complex (we live on the 3rd story of a 6 unit building) and FI tracked down the maintenance workers who climbed a 30 foot ladder to our balcony and let us in through our sliding glass door.
What a night! We realized how dumb we were for not having spare house keys with our neighbors or family. New keys are made.
Anyone have any comparable "we're idiot" stories?? Please make me feel better haha.
