October 2012 Weddings

Naked Ring Finger :(

I got married this past Thursday, and on Friday morning in the shower I noticed that one of the diamonds had fallen out of my wedding band! I didn't want to not have it on my honeymoon, so we dropped it off for repair on the way home from our honeymoon.

So I was without my wedding band.

While we were there, I asked if they could inspect my engagement ring for loose stones, just to be on the safe side. They said my emerald was definitely not as tight as it could be, and I should send that for repair as well. It also needs to be redipped.

So now I'm without either of my rings, which is sad since we just got married and I want to stare at my rings together all day. :(

My grandmother lent me her wedding band so I have something there--it's a beautiful, simple plain white gold band. Not the same, but at least I still look married. :)

Re: Naked Ring Finger :(

  • Wow, that stinks! Did you have your wedding band custom made? Mine was back in April and a about a week later I notice that one of the tiny stones fell out and it had to be replaced. Apparently that's common as it's still "settling."

But yes, you're right - at least you have something to wear!

  • Awe! I'm sorry! Your post actually just reminded me to remind FI about getting my ring re-dipped before the wedding. My band is okay. I haven't worn it so it still looks nice and shiny! Sorry again though!

  • first, congrats on your marriage!
and thats sooo sweet of your grandam to lend you hers!
  • Achi--I didn't have it custom made, but I did have it sized one and a half sizes smaller. They said that's why a stone fell out and others are loose--sometimes when rings are sized, it throws everything off a bit. They assured me it wouldn't happen again, though.

A bit of advice for everyone, too: If your jeweler offered a protection plan and told you to get inspections done every six to twelve months, make sure you do it! Even though I had the ring sitting in a drawer for eight months, they still said they could technically void my protection plan and not pay to get the ring fixed because I missed the July inspection (they said they would overlook it this time, but that I needed to come in in the future). When they called me to tell me to come in to have the ring checked back in July, I explained that it hadn't been worn yet, and they said I should come in anyway, but I thought it was wasted time and ignored it. Apparently, they are getting very strict about this and they are allowed to refuse to fix your ring if you haven't been getting it checked. Just a word of warning!

  • Congrats on the wedding! :) And I'm so sorry you had to send it out so soon :( At least you got something to wear and you'll have yours back before you know it!

I used to work for one of the companies that did the ring inspections, and we definitely took it seriously!! We were lenient on a case by case basis, but the company is losing money anytime they send it out to get it fixed. I would make sure not to forget!!
