"Cultural Issues"

Is anyone else finding people who are unwilling to work with them do to some racial or cultural aspect of themselves or their spouse-to-be?

I really need some names of wedding planners, people from venues, etc that don't care. Because after getting hung up on or given the "up-and-down" glare or having them make that "cockroach in my salad" face when I talk about my fiance... I'm getting VERY frustrated and REALLY worried about how I can pull everything together. I wouldn't worry so much since there aren't very many aspects to my wedding, but I had a MAJOR setback to my ability to be out places... I had a seizure and required surgery to repair my shoulder. And they said it would be MONTHS before I can use it or am able to let myself get stressed out or overworked. And no one will give me the time of day in this city. I'm starting to think that I should just try to get the wedding done in Bangladesh with his family and then move to the UK with him and say "to heck with it" for PHX with my family.

Re: "Cultural Issues"

  • Check out downtownphoenixvenues.com! The coordinator there is awesome, and she will help out all through the planning process!
  • First off...  ugh.  I'm SO sorry you're having to deal with ignorance and ugliness!  I'm mad for you!  Seriously, it's ridiculous!!

Second- I'm going to ask around to a few people that I trust that have a lot more experience and know a lot more vendors than I do.  Are you looking more for just a planner, or an all inclusive thing?

Don't worry...  we'll be able to find something, and it'll be fabulous!  =)

  • I'm so sorry you're coming across very rude people. I just hired Laurie Cohen as my day-of coordinator from Sip and Twirl Events from Scottsdale (click on the underlined link) She's very nice and very professional. We're having an intercultural wedding and she's very excited! She told me she's Hawaiian, but she's a "haole" (Hawaiian for white). So she might know a little about receiving the "up-and-down glare." Also she's running a winter special and I got a SUPER great deal with her! Not sure if she only does day-of or full-service coordination. Hope you find someone that fits your needs!

  • Thanks to everyone for the advice. It's definitely helping and I'm definitely going to try those places.
