How much did you pay for your seamstress?

Hello ladies, I just got my wedding dress 2 weeks ago. It fits, but i also plan to loose a few more pounds til my wedding next year. So i probably have to take the dress in before my wedding day. Maybe an inch or two in (depending if and how much weight i loose til then). Did you had to take your dress in by a seamstress? And if so: how much did it cost? I just want to see what the average price is, so i'll budget it into my plan. Thanks ladies!

I paid $275 in total. That included: the bustle, getting it taken in and the pressing. I think just getting it taken in was around $75-100. I didn't shop around so I am not sure if this high/average/low, etc!

I paid $155 for my hem, bustle and steaming. I think jenmac's estimation of $75-$100 to have it taken in sounds about right.

I think I paid $325 for the hem (about 4 inches taken up), the bustle and it was taken in a full size. I bought it off the rack at David's Bridal during one of their sales. It cost as much to tailor it to fit as the price I paid for the gown! I took it to Chiarina Custom Tailor in Southampton.

It really depends on your dress and how difficult it is to alter, TBH.  Some dresses can't be hemmed from the bottom because it would mess with detail, so they have to almost be taken apart in order to fit them.

Your best bet would be to go to different places and get estimates based on your dress.

Hi!  I am not doing an advertisement here! LOL I'm a future bride with a normal office job, but I do sewing in my spare time. I think that $75-100 is the right price for taking in a wedding gown.  When people get their dress hemmed, bustled, etc, yes, it will cost way more.  If the dress is the right length and you like everything about it, and you just want a size 8 turned into a size 6, for example, $75-100 is normal.  Note- if your dress has lots of "bones" or is see-through or anything, you will probably have to pay more.
