New here, but have a question

When I got married the first time, I loved the beading and appliques on my dress.  My mom paid to have the dress preserved.  That dress has been stored at my parents house for over 13 years.  I looked into selling it, but no one would take it because of the age of the dress.  Now I'm thinking that I could use the beeding and appliques on my dress when I get married this time.  Would that be tacky?

I don't think it would be "tacky" but I would think it would freak me out a little, (just me personally).  I don't know much about these things but I would guess that it would cost a ton of $$ to remove all that & put it on a new gown, but maybe another poster would know better.  But, if you do go with your idea, really nobody would know except those you chose to tell.

I think it's fine. Depending on the construction of the dress, it may be easy or hard to remove the items you want. I'm sewn for over 40 years, and can take anything apart, or put it back together, LOL. Maybe PM me, or post a picture of the dress explaining what you want.

My mom is going to make my dress this time around.  She made all of my sister's & my prom dresses in high school as well as several wedding dresses.  I opted to purchase my original dress and that marriage ended in divorce.  I figured this time I around I would correct that mistake.  She believes that we could remove the items that I want easily.

I don't associate the dress with my ex in anyway.  I felt beautiful that day & that is all I associate with the dress.  My honey even told me that if I could still fit in the dress I was welcome to wear it again or to use the fabric to make a new dress.  I can't fit into that dress anymore, but I don't mind using parts from it.  The only people that will be there from by first wedding are my parents and my sister and her family.  I doubt that any of them will even remember what the dress looked like after all this time.

Tonya - with your most recent description- I would wholeheartedly agree that of course you should use the parts of that dress that you loved.   ~Donna

Since your mom is going to be doing it & thinks it wouldn't be a problem, go for it!!

Wow how great that your mom is going to make your wedding gown!!  I think it's great that you can take things from your previous gown and incorporate it into your new one!  Good for you.

I think it is a lovely idea, and it could also be your "something old".

If you would not mind, could you post pictures of both dresses - before and after?  I for one would love to see how the remake turns out!
