XP: Aisle Runner Questions

I posted this in Ceremony Ideas and then had another question and thought I'd post it hear and ask you ladies..

1)Are you planning on having an aisle runner or marker. If so what do you plan to have. I am wanting to buy a monogrammed aisle runner. My question is whether to have the ushers lay it out in advance (before the bridal party enter) or have them wait and lay it out right before I enter.

*In past experience it always seems awkward when the usher's lay the aisle runner down right before the bride enters. Either there's an awkward kink, or its crooked, etc. I'm wondering if its easier to lay it down early?

2)I'm sure it depends on your aisle marker/runner but will you have all guests walk down the center aisle or have them walk via a side aisle. (we initially planned to drape tulle along the center aisle because of how pretty it looks however it doesn't work for our wanting to dismiss guest row by row after the ceremony.).

This was our initial idea..We may change the receiving line or just drape tulle (vertically)  from the ends of each row instead.

This is similar to what we may do, minus the bow. And ribbon. I will probably find large ivory roses to place there instead.

Re: XP: Aisle Runner Questions

  • 1) My ceremony will be outside so I'll just be using the cobblestones my venue has to walk on.  To designate the aisle there will be 6 shepard hooks spaced out (3 on each side with one at the end, one in the middle, and one at the other end of each side).

For runners I've seen them put down before everything and the aisle is blocked off so only the WP walks on it.  I've also seen it put out just before the ceremony starts after everyone is seated so again, only the WP walks on it.  There hasn't been any problems IMO with either of these options.

    2) My guests will be walking to get to their seats which ever way they want.  I think what you do just depends on your preference and what you want the entire aisle to look like.

  • We're putting ours down right before the flower girls come in.   I've been to a lot of weddings and I never remember the runner being down when the guests arrive (though it could have been), but I don't think it would be a problem if it were.

My church does not have a center aisle, so the guests will be walking down the aisles on either side.  I think your first inspiration picture is really pretty!  However, if you're really wanting to dismiss guests row by row, it will make things more complicated.  I like the idea of simple flowers with maybe some tulle behind them.
