Sales Tax?

Hey ladies,

Have you heard about vendors charging a sales tax?

I work in an industry in which I hire vendors all the time (florists, caterers, photographers, etc) and no one has ever put tax on their bill.  They handle this on their own. 

Now, I hired a vendor and when I look at the contract it is an additional $300 in sales tax!  EEK  They are already $300 over my budget which would bring me to $600!

    I have! My photog, venue and florist are charging me a sales tax. I think just about any service or product in FL maybe even the USA they can charge you sale tax.

    It depends on the business and how they handle their tax... I own a small business, and I don't charge my customers sales tax because I pay taxes when I purchase my products wholesale (I never got a resale tax certificate basically). However, if I did have this certificate, I would not be paying sales tax when I purchase my products for resale, and thus my customers would be paying sales tax.

    I have been charged sales tax for video, venue, and my caterer... I think it is the norm to add taxes, just that some give it as part of their initial price, while some don't

    I believe that if you are getting a "product" out of the contract (photos, video, floral, food), you are to be charged sales tax.

    My venue and photo have charge me tax..i think the florist too....I didn't think it was abnormal....

    yeah we have sales tax on venue, photographer & florist for sure... my DJ isn't charging tax (unless it was already included - but it wasn't an itemized amount on our contract)...

    Yes, my photographer charges sales tax.
