diy waxing

I want to wax my legs and underarms for my upcoming wedding but i dont think i can afford to go to a salon.  Has anyone tried any of the waxing products you do yourself? Any recomendations?

Thanks

Re: diy waxing

  • First off, don't wax!  Use a sugaring hair removal product. Second, you really don't want to do it to yourself if it is you first time being 'waxed'. Find a girl friend to help you. Third, red wine makes it easier (and more fun)

  • I'm not a fan of at home waxing products - I don't think they have quite the strength of a salon waxing.  Personally, I wax a lot and I would not attempt it myself - I would leave it to a professional.

  • ditto with going to a professional, especially if you've never done it before. and as far as sugaring goes--if it's available and you can afford it, do that. if you can't, wax is fine. I have to drive an hour and 45 minutes to get to the closest salon that will do sugaring, so I just wax.

  • I would definitely NOT do it yourself. It's messy and difficult, and it is hard to inflict pain on yourself over and over.

  • If you can't afford a salon, you could look into a few of the beauty schools in your area.  They aren't allowed to work on people until they have had A LOT of practice, so it's not that daunting - and they have tons of guidance from mulitple experienced professionals.

That's what I've done for most of my "high end" beauty treatments - hair color, hair perm, leg and brow wax.  They did wonderfully, and I got tons of compliments.
  • I disagree with some prior posts.  I diy wax and as long as you're competent, you should be able to teach yourself.
For example, your underarms grow in different directions.  if you miss a few hairs, try applying and pulling the wax strip in another direction.  And all you have to do is reapply and pull again until everything is clear.  What's the big deal?
Also I use NADS (that Austrailian sugar thing) so I don't have to heat up anything and have it too hot for me to handle.
  • I think diy waxing is easy to figure out. I did it myself without ever having it done by a salon and it went well. I used a sugar product because I herd it's easier to clean up if you get it on something. The hardest part was probably the back of my legs just because its a little awkward pulling the strip off.
