   My adorable nephew has requested a gingerbread house for his upcoming birthday. Has anyone ever made one? Are they difficult? Tips or advice? I have seen kits at Joanne's and Michael's but of course that was only around the holiday season.

   I've made them for years. They are really not hard at all, just like rolling out a cutting a giant sugar cookie. You just trim it up with a paring knife after it's baked. I could come down and help you!

   it takes a few days. srsly. if you want the house to stand up on its own, you need a lot of canned goods and some time for the frosting to dry. i do the walls first on day one. the roof goes on on day two. decorating is done on day three.

   oh, hmos right, it usually takes us a few days to finish it. And the icing does not set right if it's raining or humid. I love Barbie's suggestion.

   There are "Bunny Houses" at Joanne Fabric right now. I don't know if it's gingerbread though. I also saw them at Aldi

   Buy one. Srsly. It's not worth it to make one if you're not a superbakery person.

   Yeah I only ever see the kits during the holidays. I am a big big fan of graham cracker gingerbread houses. They're little, of course, so it wouldn't really be a substitution for cake, but maybe the kids could make them at his party, or you could decorate with them. Otherwise, I think at this time of year you're stuck…

   make an 8" square cake X4 and layer them. You could use graham crackers or carve another few layers into a roof shape. (or cheat and use cardboard) frost with a milk chocolate frosting or brown buttercream (i'd go with the chocolate as you need a LOT of food coloring to get a good brown color), smooth it out and then make…
