Re: AW your invites - PIP please!

  • I bought all my supplies from www.cardsandpockets for approx $1.75 per invite.  Design & printing is (will be) DIY.  No finished product yet, so no photos.

  • Our invite design! We haven't finished buying all our supplies yet and haven't decided if we're going to print at home or get them printed...depends on the quality of home printing.

It will be in a black pocketfold (made my me), red invite mat, 3 inserts and a red rsvp envelope.

  • I haven't printed them yet, but I'll tell you about them.

I'm buying the paper from Walmart.  150 pages for $5.  Envelopes are coming from Cards and Pockets for $12.

I got the design from Double Trouble Designs and I'm printing myself.

  • I used supplies from cards & pockets as well (With ribbon and punches from Michaels).  I think they came out to about  $1.50 per invite, though I didn't calculate exactly.

  • dls1215.  I love your invites and I can't believe you got them so cheap.  How did you do the front?  Is that card stock glued to matting and then glued to ribbon?  Did you tie a bow in the back?  How did you attach the bow to the small square?  Also, did you design the picture on the small square yourself?
  • There are pictures in my planning bio under paper. Sorry I tried to PIP, but apparently these pictures aren't saved on this computer and I'm too lazy to save them from the bio then paste them here :)

I DIYed most of them. Ordered paper from envelopemall.com, got them printed at a local print shop since I wanted thermography, then assembled and made bellybands myself. I think they end up costing about $175 per invite before postage.

  • I made mine myself. Ordered the pockets from cardsandpockets, and the rest of the paper was from xpedx. I cut and printed on each page, glue dotted them all together, and hand stamped each invite, then sprayed with a finishing spray so the ink didn't transfer. I made each belly band with sheer taupe ribbon woven through the 2 card stocks. All together, with shipping and postage per invite, these invites cost me about $2 each.

[QUOTE]tgoff248 , those are gorgeous!  They all are!  I was thinking of ordering from a professional but now you have me second guessing the idea.  I am going to look tomorrow with a company at STd's and I don't think I want to now!  Thanks for the info.

Thank you! I made my STD's too. Pic in bio. They have a similar concept. I looked all around and found nothing that could hold up to the image in my head, so I gave it a try to do myself and realized that I could do it! The invites took me a while but I feel like they were worth the gratification not to mention the savings :)

    Good Luck!

Honestly, I ordered a few samples online and wasn't satisfied. Luckily I could send them back but it was a waste. Considering I only wanted Ivory for the most part, I went to  a local paper store to look at what I would want. The local store was cheaper than online and they matched. The only color they didn't have for me personally was the red I used. But I used the least amount of that so it wasn't a big deal to order online. I got a sample from c&p and was happy.

Do you mean the pocket itself? That's the only thing I bought from C&P. The rest of the paper and ribbons I purchased else where. I don't have a pic, but I put my entire pocket into an Ivory and Taupe lined envelope and mailed them. A lot of people don't even put the pockets in envelopes but I personally don't like that idea. I hope this answers your question.

I don't normally post here but I would love to AW my invites, lol!  I DIY'ed all my paper as well.

I bought the perfetto pocketfolds, invite/RSVP envelopes, and ribbon from www.cardsandpockets.com and I bought my cardstock (this includes a 2nd layer backing behind the invite from www.paper-papers.com.  All together it came out to around $2.68 per invite.  With the envelopes including the RSVP envelopes it came out to around $3.

    Not the best pic but...

  • tgoff248 :  How did you make the belly-bands.  You're invites look great and I have a similar idea for mine.  Any help would be wonderful!  Thanks!
  • Everything is DIY:  navy and ivory cardstock and ivory envelopes from Anchor Paper; green cardstock, silver ribbon, embossing ink and powder from Jo Ann; stamp and heat gun from Michaels.  We printed them ourselves and the total cost per invite (which includes the paper cutter and all of the embossing supplies) is less than $1.15.

*ribbon is definitely not as sparkly as it looks in the picture

The RSVP, reception, direction, etc. cards will slide under the ribbon on the left.

  • Lovebuddies:  I like the green swirly picture on your invites.  Where did you get it?  Can you send a link to it for others to use?
  • Thanks!  :)  The stamp is from a 5 pack with other "dot flourish" stamps of various sizes and shapes.  I got it at Michaels for $6 (with a 40% off coupon).

Michaels doesn't have much on their website, but I found it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Inkadinkado-Clear-Stamps-Dot-Flourishes/dp/B00172ROLI

I tried to DIY but it didn't work out so well.  I finally just got an Etsy seller (Elegant Occasions) to help me with my vision.  Price was $4.50 per invite, including printing of the invitation and 2 enclosure cards, envelopes, printing of return address on the envelope, and printing of address on the RSVP envelope.  I did line my own envelopes though.

I found a ribbon in the color I wanted from Michaels. I measured and cut them. Then I printed the "Tonia and Kevin" and the date on the same Ivory Cardstock I used for everything else. I cut them up and matted them to the taupe paper after I put the ribbon on. I used glue dots to put everything together. I made them a *touch* smaller than the pocket because they stretched a bit. So in simpler form (because I realize now this may be too wordy) once everything was printed and cut, it went like this:
    1. Glue dot ribbon to taupe paper
    2. Cover where ribbon meets on taupe paper with ivory closure

I honestly had made a sample long before coming on these boards only to find out after that I had made a "bellyband" lol :)

  • Theresa626: Sorry I got really busy and didn't see your post asking about my invites.  What I did was use a paper punch to cut out the star and the flower I used adhesive to stick them on the white square.  Then I used glue dots to tack down the ends of the ribbon on the silver square and then placed the white square with the punches on top of it to hold the ribbon in so it looks like a seamless piece of ribbon.  (It slides on and off the invitation to hold it shut)

  • dls1215 - I LOVE your invites.  I would copy them entirely if they matched my color scheme.

One question:  Did that entire envelope with the belly band then go inside the addressed envelope or did you address the other side that's not shown?  Did the envelopes come with your package from cardsandpockets.com?
  • I just ordered my invitations last night from www.theamericanwedding.com. Picture in signature.  For 100 invitations, response cards, and thank you notes, and using a coupon code for 20% off entire order of $200 or more, my total order, with shipping, came to $180.  Not too shabby!

I made these completely DIY.  Including ALL materials, creating around 100 invites, I spend just over $100, which puts these invites at about $100 each - with many hours of labor.  But the work is so worth it!  This is the first demo invite, the final ones will have red ribbon going around it.

    Supplies:
    19"x25" blue artist's paper [envelope]
    -cut into 19'x5" strips
-scored and folded at 2.5", 9.5", and 16.5"

    8.5"x11" white scrapbook paper [invitation]
-laser cut into 2 4.5"x6.5" pieces
    8.5"11" white scrapbook paper [inserts]

  • I DIY'd every bit of our invites! :)  I got the pockets from cardsandpockets.com, the cream paper from Office Max, and the orange paper from Archivers.  The cost per invite was less than $3.50 each, but that includes envelopes and postage.  I thought that was pretty good to have exactly what I wanted.  A friend of mine got hers made professionally and they're pretty similar and I KNOW I wouldn't have been able to afford them if I hadn't made them myself!

I am so impressed with everyone's DIY invites.  I wish I had the patience for it!  We had ampersand-studios design our invites because we wanted something really unique.  When it's done it will fan out.  The paper is fused together so that it's white on one side and yellow on the other.  We ordered 75 invites w envelopes and the total was $350.  So that's $4.67 an invite.

The last page is perforated so that it can be torn off and mailed as a postcard.

  • I finally have ours together.  Lots more in my bio, but here's a teaser!
