hair/makeup challenge number 3! (1920s/30s silent movie/finger waves!)

Past challenges (you're welcome to keep trying these!  Please post your results!):
Challenge 1 (1940s victory rolls/pinup)
Challenge 2 (1960s bouffant/mod makeup)

Challenge date: April 8th - 25th

Ok ladies, you asked for it, so here it is!  Possibly your biggest challenge yet!  get out your hair gel and fine-toothed combs!!  Let's get this third challenge started.  We're going back to the roaring twenties and dirty thirties this time.  Whether you're a 20s flapper or a 30s hollywood glam girl, you will look smashing with finger waves!

As always, I could use your help, too!  If you see something great online, post it!  We want easy tutorials, or difficult ones for those who want a real challenge.

You can start posting pics whenever you want.

Here is the current list of tutorials (that I will continue to add to).

MAKEUP (false lashes will really make your look, but they're not necessary!)
1920s/1930s makeup was all about heavy dark bedroom eyes and long, pencil-thin eyebrows and teeny tiny bow-tie pouty dark lips.  You know what Betty Boop looks like, don't you?

  • I just spent a year doing fingerwaves and pincurls, so I don't think I'll be participating in this challenge, thanks anyway. Oh, and in case anyone is interested, since I had to teach a couple of my cosmetology instructors how to fingerwave, you'll get farther using gel to wave than hairspray. You can also use the OPEN end of a cutting comb, not the fine, but you're better off with a fingerwave comb which is similar to a barber's comb. Just in case anyone is interested. Have fun!

MrsKevers, we could definitely use your help if you change your mind!  We'd love to see a pro do it.

  • For victory rolls, I would suggest getting something to keep in them, like a sponge roller. They're pretty easy once you figure them out, and I wear them in my hair ocasionally because I love the look. Tease your hair and it will hold. That's what I did for my engagement pictures.

  • nobody's going to do this challenege? im bummed...i wanted to be jealous of everyone's hair-doing skills!

Yeah, I guess I'm the only one.  I'm doing mine tonight.  :/

This challenge was a big fail.  I wonder if we can think of something more popular/easier for next time?  Pin curls create a similar effect and are a lot easier.  I think someone suggested them before.

  • I'm going to do victory rolls for my engagement pictures so I will show pictures when we do them, hopefully in June. I'm going to consider it my first hair trial because if I end up loving it, I may have victory rolls at the wedding. I just don't want to do the bouffant or finger waves because I know I wouldn't wear my hair like that.

  • I actually had my hair professionally done like  that (fingerwaves) before, but I don't believe I have any pictures! I loved the look and tried to recreate it, but could never get it to look right. I just might have to try it again! :)
