you think??  and now she says she doesn't have time for us to try them on, EVEN THOUGH i found stores for her that have them IN THE STORE that we could go try them on at...  she has to order them today.

this could easily turn into a disaster.

as my aunt, the dressmaker says...  if a wedding is important enough to have, it is important enough to put quality time into planning it...  these girls (BMs) will be focal points in her wedding and her pictures for the rest of her life, and if she wants them to look nice and feel good about being in her wedding and sacrificing that much money and time, then she should take the time to make sure their dresses are right... not just her dress, but her BMs' dresses too.

hopefully my aunt can do something with the dress in the month between the projected delivery date and the wedding.

If she wants to make that many changes to the dress, why did she pick it in the first place?  I'd just keep looking for something that fit the rest of the criteria.

As for modesty standards and sleeves, I know some churches let you get away with wearing a wrap or shawls over the shoulders and upper arms during the ceremony.  Any chance that could work instead of attempting to add sleeves?

And WTF... you can ORDER that dress in a knee length version....

    edited December 2011
yes, that has been done before...  but it's not what she wants.

she had us order the long dress so we could use the fabric off the bottom to make the alterations.

or, what about ordering a dress that HAS sleeves...  there are some cute ones out there.

sorry i'm so whiny about it.  i'm just frustrated that i'm spending so much money on it and she doesn't care if it's right not, as long as she looks good.  you know?  eh.  nevermind.  :)

BM dress drama...one of the reasons I told my BM's to pick out their own dresses.  The only requirements I have for the dresses is that they be navy blue and as modest as they can get (which really isn't a problem for my BM's)...my MOH got her dress on Monday and I can't wait to see it.

To me, when I look back on my pictures in 20 years, I won't be saying "oh no, the navy blues don't match, the dresses aren't the same", rather, I'll be saying "can you believe what wonderful friends I had?  What special people they were to stand by my side on my wedding day."

exactly.  i tried to tell her something like that, and all i got was a blank stare.

i plan to let my BM's pick their own dresses as well.  i have been a BM in many weddings (10+) and i know how frustrating it is...  they know best what fits them and what works for them.

With all those alterations, it probably would have been cheaper to have an Etsy designer custom make the damned things.

I REALLY like that dress but I agree with noelle, why pick it if you have to make so many alterations to it? I completely understand you being whiney, I would be too.

With my BMs, I'd like them to pick out whatever from a line as long as it's x color and x length so there is some uniformity to it. I'd much rather everyone have a different dress that flatters each girl's figure than one dress that doesn't flatter everyone. Both my bridesmaids have the shape of a 15 year old boy though so they could do the same if they wanted. FSIL doesn't like the idea and wants everyone the same dress butttt it's not her wedding..muahaha. For a 15 year old who is not getting married in the foreseeable future, she sure is bossy.

she sure is an opinionated 15 year old!  ;)

i am kind of along with what you said kath...  let them pick as long as it's a certain length and one of these colors, x y or z...  i don't even mind them not being the same color!

also, i ALWAYS wear dresses with cardis and lots of hair/clothing pin-on flowers...  it's kind of my uniform (i need to get out of that rut, but it works with my little body)...  so i saw a wedding on SMP once where they were wearing dresses or skirts with cardis and i thought it was SO CUTE!  that's also on my idea-list...  have them all get a cardi that is x-color and a black dress or tank and skirt, and then give them all pin-on flowers or brooches to stick on them.  i'm not matchy-matchy at all...  and i don't want a very formal wedding.  just little ideas floating around... :)

    What they said.

Also, I don't get the coffee shop theme.  I love themes, I do think they are fun, and they fit personalities of the people getting married- but in general "WEDDING" is a pretty big theme by iteself to me- it sends a pretty strong message without a supplemental theme lol.  Like I said though, I do enjoy them but part of me goes HUH?

Don't get caught up in the minutia of others people's drama. Makes your hair go grey.

we all have to look the same.  we had that done for a wedding i was in this past june, and it looked great.  we had to search a couple weeks but found some beautiful fabric that really matched the dress.  it cost me $30 to get the fabric, thread, pattern, and to add straps to the dress to help keep it up.  it was wonderful.

i gave up.  i told her everything my aunt told me to watch for...  the grain of the fabric, cut of the armholes, etc...  and whatever she comes up with, well... it's her wedding.  she doesn't want anything to look "homemade" and she wants it professionally done and she wants to order it today because the 2 companies she's working with have a 14-16 week delivery period.  long sentence, my bad.  :)

Boy is stupid.  he is the only person i've heard of that wants a "theme"...

I saw a wedding somewhere and the bride has a bright yellow cardigan (I think?) on in a few of her photos. I know cardigans don't go with bridal couture but it looked really cute.

I'm wearing a coral dress with a grey cardigan as we speak..tehe.

kath - aren't you just lookin' cute today!  haha...  i am wearing a long bright blue open cardi BF gave me, with a grey lace tank and grey skirt.  and zebra flats.  BF is hispanic and hispanics like bright colors... hence the bright blue cardi that i never would have chosen myself!  :)  it's very soft and pretty though...  he is the "fashionista" of us.  i let him dress me a lot.  not, uh, literally...  ha!  :)

Well, it's the style I like (my Mom had a lace overlay dress) but I'm going to have to wait until I get engaged and try on some dresses to make sure that style looks good on my body.  I think I will probably try on dresses and then end up having it custom made - the artist in me loves the idea of having a hand in designing a one-of-a-kind dress!

as long as you promise not to try to make me wear make-up...and you promise not to go broke on my wedding - you're in<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

We're also trying to go for the least expensive tux as possible for the guys...FI & I are going shopping for them on Sunday with my dad...FI will get a free tux with a min of 5 complete rentals which range from $89-$149, and all the guys will get $20 off of that.

And the real deal of the whole show is my ring-bearer (and my SIL is loving me for this one)...I asked that he wear a red polo shirt and navy blue docker-style pants with white sneakers (my SIL LOVES dressing my 5 yr old nephew in Vans, which I think is perfect) - he's gonna look so adorable.  Haven't found a flower girl dress - hoping to find a cute red dress in post-Christmas clearance or else a cute Valentine's day dress on sale.

    update...

    crisis averted...

    http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=476129&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results

she is now getting this dress.  it is...
    fully refundable and returnable.
    $20 less
    more flattering on the girls
hardly any alterations (just normal hem/taking in)
we will receive them in 2-3 weeks, as opposed to 14-16 weeks

she was mad at me but she ended up being happier with these dresses than the original dresses... so now i think we are okay... :)
