To me, my middle name is much more "who I am" than my maiden name.  I can't imagine getting rid of it.

This is one of those things I just don't get.  Oh well.

And no, don't waste money on a name change kit.  I'm not exactly sure what it claims to do, but it's nothing you can't do yourself for free.

[QUOTE]Oh, ok, glad it's not just because I'm old!  :)  But just taking his name sure makes it easier anyway. I missed my old last name at lot at first (which was my old married name).  But I've finally gotten used to it.  Sort of.

I don't call easier sitting at the DMV for hours on end and wasting half of my day.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />

My mom must have been before her time then because she was Becky Maiden Name Married Name.  She dropped the Lynn like it never existed.

I am Michelle maidenName MarriedName.  I liked my maiden name, and my middle name was Lynn which every other girl born in the 80's had so I had no issue dropping it.  There was no question that I was taking his name.

I've also heard from aunts that making the maiden name your middle makes it easier if you have to help out your parents/family later in life.

I thought about keeping my Maiden name professionally as I've been in the industry for 8 years and have lots of contacts.  However, I would get so confused introducing myself as two different people depending on socially or professionaly so I just bit the bullet and changed it.

Well, changing it period isn't all that easy--we all know how much I hated it.  I just meant it was easier to decide.

And I had no problem at the DMV--it was everywhere else that gave me trouble.

If I was younger and didn't have a 10+ year career already under my belt, it would have been a no-brainer but I even have parents call me "Mc".  I really haven't changed it because we would make travel plans and they now won't let you on the plane if your ticket doesn't match your ID.  And then, I was busy with my mom this whole summer so it just didn't seem that important.  Now I'm coming up on having to renew my passport so I think I'll have to do it before then.  I want to be "Mrs. Rankenstein" but it will be hard to give up "Mc".

Courtney - My FI thought that too! Like, he actually thought it was the law or something! He was shocked that I was thinking about keeping my name. I know a couple of people who used their maiden names as their son's name, but Perkins for a first name sounds like an old English butler :)

This was one reason why I hesitated as well.  Then after a few months I realized it wasn't about her; it was about DH and I creating our own family.

I've had DH's last name for about 6 months now and I am still having problems signing it.  Once I put an extra 'n' in it for no reason.  I literally have to stop and think when signing it, which is sad.

Well his name is only 2 letters so I pretty much can't botch it... but in the last 30 years, I've "perfected" my signature... lol!  Oh well... I guess I can start trying to make his last name look pretty :P

LOL!   FI said that I actually make the last name look pretty when I write it!  You can't even tell what he writes!  I'm mostly excited because I won't have to spell or correct someone every time I say my last name.  Its not hard but EVERYONE wants to spell it wrong so I have to spell it everytime.

I was considering doing Amber Marie Maiden Married... because, like PP said, when will I ever need to write out my whole name? I could be wrong, but I feel like having two middle names will rarely be an issue, right? I mean, my name would still be "Amber Married" when it comes to people addressing me First and Last name.

I do plan to have my maiden name as a middle name for one of our children, though. :)
Disclaimer: Please excuse the above comment. I'm probably freaking out because there is less than one month to go. Thank you.

I am excited to get FI's last name. I have no issues with giving up my maiden name and don't think it reflects on "who I am" but I understand where people are coming from. I have never really liked my last name and I don't really have any professional ties or anything so I will definitely be Brooke Anne FI'sLastName.

I have one of "those" last names - the one where if you ever see it (literally): I'm related to them, my immediate family are the only ones with the name in the state, always misspelled/mispronounced, etc -
I do plan on taking FI name (one cool tidbit - both of our last names start with P) - and he fully expects that.
I know my mom goes by Lisa MaidenInitial MarriedName, but she's also referenced her middle name before... I don't know if she did the inital thing legally, or just goes by it, but it's part of her signature (Will have to ask! How do I not know this?)
As of now, my intent is to go with Diana MaidenInitial Married (but then my initials will be DPP as opposed to DLP)
*sigh* - ah, well, I do have some time to decide... and I've heard it's a pain in the butt changing your name in the military, so I may be living with my maiden name part time for a while after getting married.
We have no plans for kids (ever, at all) so that isn't really an issue...

Matt and I talked last night and we both like the idea of doing Bobbileigh Maidenname Marriedname.  I am actually excited because I will no longer have to explain that I dont have a middle name.

FI has asked me what I am going to do and I have no idea. My whole maiden name is all Irish-Meghan (spelled the Irish way with the H) my middle name and of course my last name! I thought about doing the heiphan thing..but it would look and sound silly I think :( So I'm not sure what I want to do right now.
