New Trends...

In the last couple of weeks I've seen multiple articles on a new "wedding trend". This involves the wedding party running from nothing, but then something is later photoshopped into the picture. I'm not a fan of this at all. I have a feeling it's going to blow up, just like everything else does: grumpy cat, cat beards, baby mugging etc etc.

Another trend I'm not a fan of is hashtags on facebook. Shoot me now.

What are some trends wedding and non-wedding that drive you bonkers?

Re: New Trends...

  • That wedding trend I think is fine. It's just silly and if it makes the couple and party laugh, and doesn't hurt anyone I think it's fine. It's not rude or anything, so it doesn't bother me. Hashtags do drive me insane! They serve no purpose of facebook.

  • Actually, Facebook just announced that they made hashtags clickable like twitter.

I thnk that happened today or late last night. I tested it out myself this morning and yep..clickable.

  • Eh, then hashtags don't bother me anymore. I didn't like it when it served no purpose.

I agree. It was annoying when people did it just because.

  • The way I look at it is that Facebook is just trying to copy twitter... come up with your own idea, you know?

  • Wedding decoration trends that need to die: Burlap (or worse, burlap/lace...gag) and Mason jars, slutty photo poses (I'm all for having fun, but way to downplay a very significant event).

Non-wedding (although it's used a lot in weddings): Chevron. It's nice in moderation but people are just overusing it now. GO. AWAY.

  • I think the hashtags on facebook are dumb. You aren't really as limited for space when writing on facebook like you are on twitter. I already accidentally 'like' photos and statuses...I don't need more links on my newsfeed to accidentally hit!

We used burlap and lace. Sorry to make you gag? I like it a lot, as did my husband.  It was his idea. There wasn't really anything I saw that I liked, so burlap and lace it was.  I thought our wedding looked very nice. Hope no one else was gagging...

Sparkler "exits" from the wedding reception.

Cheezy flip flops and sunglasses given out to guests.

"Rustic" weddings are pretty cliche right now also (I blame pinterest for that one).  If you aren't in the country....don't try to throw a "rustic wedding" with burlap, hay bales, mason jars, etc.

Non wedding related?  Blogs.  Everyone and their mother has a blog now.  Most of them aren't worth reading.

  • I think if you can throw whatever kind of wedding you want where ever you live. They are just decorations. Least important part of the wedding, honestly, so it shouldn't matter.

  • @soontobehanby, I get your position but this thread is talking about people's opinions. I don't think anyone here is out to offend.
  • soontobe I don't think it's a matter of throwing together decorations...these ideas are all over the place. For the most part- if burlap/lace and mason jars weren't in every wedding blog, magazine, and on pinterest, there would not be nearly as many of them.

  • Eh, I get people aren't here to offend. I just don't like hearing my wedding decorations make people gag. We didn't use mason jars however, I refused. I didn't want to explain to my kids in 15 years that yes, jars were in fact a thing.

@soontobehanby - I'm sure your wedding was beautiful!

I think that Pinterest, etc. just make people more 'aware' of certain trends than ever before so they become annoying.  It isn't that they aren't beautiful...they most certainly can be...but some  people go completely overboard with "themes" and it becomes tacky not tasteful.

I feel the same way about "beach" weddings (especially living near beach towns).  I can't tell you how many sea shells, starfish, blue (etc etc etc) weddings I see during the course of one summer.  And some of them go REALLY overboard trying to add in every.single.idea that they see (hence why the flip flop baskets, sunglasses with neon frames, etc bug the daylights out of me personally)

I just think "you didn't have to incorporate EVERY idea you saw on Pinterest" to have a nice wedding.

  • I didn't really use it in every detail. It was on our vases only really. Not too bad?

  • Burlap isn't really my taste.

I also don't understand the fake chandelier thing. Plastic, paper, in garlands, whatever. I see them in tent weddings a lot. They don't make sense to me.
  • I agree with the staged silly wedding party photos. I was a bm in my brother's wedding and we had to do so many of those photos it took all afternoon. They wanted action shots of us running, shots of us jumping in the air, carrying the groomsmen on our backs, etc etc. it annoying and uncomfortable. I felt like a prop. I have no problem with pictures in general, but seriously there was no moment that myself and the rest of the wedding party were chasing geese near a pond, so what memory are you trying to preserve? Oh wait, you just made us do it for your own vanity. Annoying.

Exactly. I was exaggerating about "gagging" over burlap and lace, obviously. The stuff I like may not appeal to you at all, but that's not gonna offend me. We obviously have different tastes.

Uh oh, does my french bustle include this? I am not a fan of pickups either, but when she was putting the buslte in it didn't really look like a pick up?

If i wanted to be "offensive" like in my PP and I told you yes it would, would you get all butt hurt, too?

No, cause I think it looks lovely. I need a bustle and it went best with my gown. Did you not need one? I am not a fan of the American bustle. (nobody get butt hurt over that either please) :)
  • No bustle on mine. Just lots of poofiness.

I don't really know what a french bustle is, but I'm talking about things like this:

Some of them look good, but like anything that gets super popular, bad half-assed attempts abounded. I also especially hate it because it was really pushed as something for women of larger sizes, and I'm a bit sensitive to having weird-looking fashions pushed on me, not becuase they look good, but because they're supposed to "minimize" something about me that I'm not supposed to like.

  • No doesn't look like that. I'm not a fan of that style either.
  • I wasn't butt hurt, but it did sting a little to read it made someone gag. I am not really upset. Just defending my position.
