  • @Swazzle - where do you pick up your coffees at in the morning?

I was really craving a yummy coffee, but it's raining cats and dogs and I didn't want to deal with the weather.  so I don't have any!!  I might go to the cafe and get one, we'll see.

  • Hey girls.  I meant to ask you.  How many calories should I be targeting per day for weight loss.

For reference, (insert embarrassed face), I'm 5'5'' and 187 lbs.

I've seen anywhere from 1200 - 1400 calories.  Does that seem right to you?
  • @CocoBellaF - Today I was early for work and had money on my Starbucks card so I decided to be fancy and go there. Usually, though, if I just want a regular coffee I'll get it from the work kitchen (we have a Keurig) or if I'm in the mood for iced coffee, I'll stop at Au Bon Pain.

@loves2shop4shoes - Are you on MyFitnessPal? I used that to help me figure out how many calories I should be eating.

  • @love2shopforshoes - 1200 seems like way too little.  I'm 4'10" and I eat more than 1200 calories.  in fact, I don't even count calories anymore...  just try to eat little to no processed food and lots of meat, fruit, veggies, healthy fats.

  • I do use My Fitness Pal.  And 1200 calories seemed like WAY too little to me.

I was starving all the time just trying it.
  • @loves2shop4shoes - MFP told you to eat only 1200 calories?

Yup!  I feel like I must have used it incorrectly...

    Hangs head in shame.

@love2shop4shoes - your BMR is 1656.  so your body requires 1656 calories just to stay ALIVE (that's like, if you were plugged in a feeding tube and in a coma, that how many you'd need).

if you're sedentary:  BMR x 1.2 = daily cals to maintain
if you do light exercise 1-3x a wk:  BMR x 1.375 = daily cals to maintain
if you do moderate exercise 3-5x a wk:  BMR x 1.55 = daily cals to maintain

so if you want to lose a lb or two a week, then you'd want to eat 1450 cals at the least.

no wonder you were starving, you weren't eating enough to even keep your body alive (BMR)!

  • @loves2shop4shoes - Yea, I think something must be off there. For me to lose 1 lb a week, it tells me to consume 1280 calories and I'm not active at all. Try going to 'settings' and then 'update your diet/fitness profile'.

@CocoBellaF, thanks!  Yeah...for whatever reason, MFP wants me to be hungry.  I redid it, saying I only wanted to lose 1.5 lbs. a week (as opposed to 2) and now it's saying 1400.

I still feel like that's pretty low.

I think I'm going to shoot for 1450-1550.
  • I felt the same way on MFP, so I adjusted the calories to be what I wanted instead of letting them "decide".  if you exercise heavily on one day, don't be afraid to eat a little extra even if the calories don't match.  your body will tell you if you're hungry and it needs energy or nourishment!  :)
