Unity ceremony?

We are wanting to do a unity ceremony that will include our son who will be 27 months at the time of the wedding. I am hoping for something he will understand and want to be a part of!! Thanks :)

Re: Unity ceremony?

  • He'll be two years old.  That's not old enough to understand any kind of ceremony.

So my advice is:  Skip the "unity ceremony" with your son.  Don't use him as a prop.    It's okay to include him in family pictures, but I'd let it go at that.

<div>This. Children shouldn't be a part of the actual ceremony, it's creepy to me, like you're trying to extend the marriage to your children. </div>
  • I agree. I don't remember much from when i was 2.  If you want it for the sake of photos, fine. have him carry something up to you in a basket, or drop marbles/toys/etc in your sand sculpture. whatever.
just know that kids act unpredictably in front of crowds and depending on his mood.....things might not go well.

like others have said, maybe its best not to have him included.  By all means, you both can do soemthing on his behalf (add in a 3rd color sand, etc).  after the ceremony, you can bring him up for pictures with the unity ceremony items.
