Happy Halloween!

Fact: I haven't bought any candy yet. What are you handing out? (if anything?)

Are you in a costume right now?

Did you decorate your home?

Re: Happy Halloween!

  • 1.  we aren't handing anything out because we're going trick or treating with H's small cousins!  I AM SO PUMPED, it's probably been 15 years since I've gone.

    2.  I am not in a costume.  I'm trying to decide what to wear tonight (costume or just cute/warm clothes)...  H bought a Flash! shirt, so he is going as... Flash?  I don't know.

    3.  I didn't decorate for Halloween, just 'fall'.  it lasts longer.  now I get to put up my Thanksgiving stuff (turkeys, etc.)...  AND CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS COMING SOON!!!

    4.  you didn't ask, but I can officially start blasting Christmas music at home TOMORROW.  muahahaha!  poor H!
  • I've had the song from A Nightmare Before Christmas stuck in my head all morning. "This is Halloween, This is Halloween!" It's on a never ending loop.

My coworkers and I are "A Few Cards Short of a Full Deck" I'm the 2 of spades :) All the other ladies wanted to be the Queens. I said. F that. So typical. 2 of spades is way cooler.

I did not decorate this year. In fact, I have to make Elijah a quick costume when we get home because I'm that asshole parent this year. I managed to come up with a quick costume idea for my mom at the last second last night. She had to go as a character from a book. I had a green hooded cape with a leaf clasp and some brown faux fur that was part of an old costume of Elijah's. Green cape, fur on the feet, badabing badaboom! She's Frodo! I'm hoping the same genius will strike me at some point today.

Fact: I haven't bought any candy either. I'll be handing out whatever is left at Stop and Shop.

Are you in a costume right now?

    Nope

    Did you decorate your home?

Oh did I ever! We have had Halloween lights out since the weekend we came back from DC. We had LED shaped Halloween lights in the windows, a blinking pumpkin outside, lights that are orange, purple and green, and a string of ghost lights that change color. When I get home tonight I'll set up a graveyard scene in the front yard, hang some pumpkin paper lanterns and last year I took toilet paper rolls, cut holes in them to look like eyes, painted them black and I'll stick glow stick in those and put them in the bushes so they look like eerie eyes floating around. I also downloaded an app that plays scary Halloween sounds so I'll set up the bluetooth speaker outside oh and I replace my porch light with a green lightbulb. I'm SO PUMPED for Halloween!

  • On the candy front, haven't bought anything. We never get any trick or treaters. I even left the bowl on the porch one year with a sign that said "Take some candy, please!" While we went to a trunk or treat at a church. You know how the first teen that sees that dumps the whole bowl in their bag? We came back and the fucking bowl was STILL FULL! Fine. You don't want my free candy? I ain't buyin any!

    yay, Halloween!

  • I heard the Monster Mash on the radio on my way in today. So classic.

I just got an update from my partner R, and we have candy now! Wonka Mix up (most favoritest), Baby Ruths and Crunch bars!

My work is celebrating tomorrow, so if I was gonna dress up, which I might I'd be a witch.

We hung stuff in the front window (scary print out faces, that I guess could be masks) and we got a pumpkin we didn't get around to carving. I don't decorate much, so no Halloween or even fallish decor in my casa.
  • Fact: I haven't bought any candy yet. What are you handing out? (if anything?)

BF and I bought candy last night...I guess it wasn't completely last minute. We bought a bag of Snickers, mini Hershey's bars, and a bag of mixed chocolate candies like Twix and Milky Way and stuff. Mostly we bought it for us...our neighbors told us to expect only 6 trick or treaters.

Are you in a costume right now?

No...but I did wear a black top and tall black boots today. I'll be dressing up my dog in her cheerleading costume though. I'll have to AW some pictures later.

    Did you decorate your home?

I decorated it for fall. I got a fall wreath and a pumpkin (never got around to buying more so I could carve them), and some pansies for my front porch. My mom gave me a bag of spiderwebs and I never found the time to go outside and put them up so I'll just save them for next year. Our neighbors did a huge Halloween display and it is awesome!

  • I'm handing out nothing. I don't think kids trick or treat in my 'hood.

I am not in costume right now.

    I did not decorate.

I sound like the Halloween Grinch.

  • I'm handing out a mix of stuff. Lollipops and chocolate and starbursts and stuff. It's a good variety. I went a little crazy buying this year.

I am not in costume, sadly. The creativity gods weren't on my side this year, so I couldn't think of anything fun and original. I am not letting this happen again next year! BF and I will be brainstorming as we pass out candy.

No decorations either. It's a pity. Once I have my own place you best believe I'm gonna be that lady who totally overdoes it. I want to make my house look sooooo freaking creepy and haunted the kids think twice! (But will ultimately still come and get candy, because there's no fun in totally saying them away.)
  • my pups have been wearing cute little Halloween scarves!  SO CUTE!
  • @buddysmom80 The eyes in the bushes thing is so good. I love that.

@those with few to no trick-or-treaters- What happened to all the trick-or-treaters? I feel like I haven't lived in a place with a lot of them since like 2001.
  • @LivLeighton Thatissocute! What a costume.

  • @jenjenniferf - I feel like they go to the schools/trunk or treats/parties now.  around here, the schools open up for safe trick or treating and the malls and the zoo all do something.

we are taking the kids by a church down the street from us where they're doing hot air balloon rides (straight up and down) from 6-8 pm.  sounds like fun for them!
  • @jenjenniferf I saw the glow stick eyes idea on Pinterest. Also, I agree with the lack of trick or treaters. I'm hoping I'm not getting all psyched up for Halloween and no kids show up since they had a trunk or treat this year. Last year we didn't have Halloween.

  • @CocoBellaF Interesting, that makes a lot of sense, for parents and organizations. Plus all the folks that don't want to hand out candy to other peoples' kids.
  • We have one bag of candy because we don't think we will get many trick or treaters so FI will bring extra candy to his students tomorrow.

I'm dressing up as a zombie and so FI. I'm going to buy some face paint today and see how this turns out lol.

I've decorated mainly for fall but I have a few Halloween decorations scattered about. I have this little sign hanging on one of doors that says Happy Halloween and I have a few pumpkins, and a ghost candy bowl. That's it.
  • New question: Would you/will you/do you bring your kids door-to-door in your neighborhood for Halloween?
  • we will be taking our kids door to door.  I've mapped out all the houses in our area that have registered sex offenders living there, so we'll make sure to skip those.  we're going to trick or treat in our neighborhood, the nicer neighborhood next to ours, and my mom's street.
  • New question: Would you/will you/do you bring your kids door-to-door in your neighborhood for Halloween?
    Absolutely!

  • Fact: I haven't bought any candy yet. What are you handing out? (if anything?) our condo building just has a party for kids in the lobby, versus letting them go door-to-door in the whole building (which, considering we have over 600 buildings in our complex, is a lot)

Are you in a costume right now? No... grrrr.  I didn't get to dress up this year, and I lent my easy costume to a friend for the day.

Did you decorate your home? Given, I"m in a condo - but not even close.  I might have a pumpkin somewhere.

We did have a Halloween party at work, though, and my team won the pumpkin carving contest!

  • Fact: I haven't bought any candy yet. What are you handing out? (if anything?)
Nothing. We're shutting the porch light off (universal sign for "no candy here" up here) and watching football. Tomorrow we'll pick up post-Halloween sale candy and bring it to gaming.

Are you in a costume right now?
I'm dressed up as a disaffected grad student - does that count?

    Did you decorate your home?
Not this year. Unless you count the cats.
  • Tonight I'm headed to my work's local Elks Lodge to set up a table and give children candy as a safe Halloween event. Middletown's not too safe for trick-or-treaters. I went simple.

  •  What are you handing out? (if anything?) hershey's chocolate and reeces's peanut butter cups, candy I like so I can enjoy the leftovers!

Are you in a costume right now?

    Nope

    Did you decorate your home?
    Not enough time this year

  • New question: Would you/will you/do you bring your kids door-to-door in your neighborhood for Halloween?

Absolutely! I won't lie...I think trunk or treat events look totally lame and depressing. I loved walking around with my sisters and friends during Halloween trick or treating from door to door. We never had weird or bad experiences or heard of anyone else who did. I think it can depend on where you live sometimes...but as a parent I think you just need to be aware of your area and where your kids will be. It makes me sad that we aren't expecting many trick-or-treaters.

  • I think I would walk my kids around the neighborhood but once they're old enough to go with their friends/siblings then I don't mind having them walk around by themselves as long as I know where they are going. I would never drive them around though, that defeats the fun out of being absolutely exhausted after trick or treating because you worked your butt off for all that candy.
  • @Kait You are adorable!

  • If I lived in a decent neighborhood I'd absolutely walk kids around. If I lived where I am now (not a bad neighborhood, just a lot of homes that have been divided into condos and near a main road) I'd probably take them to my hometown in NH to go.

I wish they had trick or treating for dogs.
    @LivLeighton Make it happen.
  • @Kait - you look adorable!
