Weekend!

Re: Weekend!

  • @Phira - Have fun dress shopping today!!

  • @Amapola14 @bethsmiles Thanks, ladies! It went pretty well, and I ordered the dress :)

I was mostly nervous because I'm a big 12 in standard sizing, and so I was terrified about what would happen if all the samples were too small. I knew that the dress I wanted wouldn't be at the store, but I wanted to be able to try on similar dresses.

I tried on a size 12 A-line (can't remember the designer, started with an F I think) that wasn't the right color, no bling, wrong neckline, but it fit really well--almost too big in the bust! I didn't feel too big in it; it was pretty flattering. My partner didn't like the neckline, but otherwise thought the dress looked nice.

Next, I attempted to put on a size 10 dress from Jovani (designer who makes the one I wanted), which was a mermaid style. Sadly, my hips were just too darn big. I then tried on a Jovani size 12 that was sweetheart/strapless and covered in sequins. I couldn't believe that it fit me, and it was actually a little too big in the waist.

My partner definitely liked the neckline better (I was just proud of him for being able to tell the difference), and he didn't think the dress was too bling-y. I normally don't wear anything too blinged out; most of my "fancy" dresses are plain fabric, and I was worried I'd feel weird.

I was mostly just excited that the size 12 fit so well. I've just started running again, and I didn't want to order a dress and have it be much too big for me. But the 12 is perfect right now, and if I do lose weight, it'll mostly be in my tummy, hips, legs, and arms ... which won't affect the fit of the dress very much.

Anyway YAY I ordered it. DRESS SHOPPING COMPLETED.

  • @Phira - Yay!!! I'm so glad it went well for you! I'm really body conscious so I understand the nerves surrounding trying on clothing (although I imagine they're even worse when it comes to trying on wedding dresses). I'm so glad you found something you love though!

  • @phira - pics or it didn't happen!!

  • @phira yes, must see pics!  So you ended up with the blingier dress?

  • Sorry ladies D: I didn't take any pictures. I didn't buy either of the dresses I tried on; I actually had wanted a completely different dress that the store didn't carry, but could order for me. I wanted to make sure I liked the style of the dress (A-line + bling) and figure out what my size was in the designer. I put links to the dresses in the "Monday" topic!

As soon as I have my ACTUAL dress, I will have a fitting and get pictures taken!
