NER: Jewelry advice

Hi all,

Finally picked my dress, yay!

It's a halter style, so not what I was expecting to choose.

Question about jewelry for you.

Typically with a halter style I would say no necklace. But with this particular dress, it's kind of a wide open neckline and my neck and chest feel pretty bare with nothing. Also, I'm planning to wear my hair down (because I never really wear it up and it's finally getting nice and long) and it really covers up the halter straps.

I'm wondering if I could wear a simple necklace. If not, I'll just do some fun statement earrings that go with the sash.

Attached is a picture of the dress from the website. On the model the dress comes up higher, the second picture is of me (push up bra to come for sure!) I have no idea why it's upside down!

Appreciate any feedback! Thanks!

  • Pretty dress! The second pic fixes itself if you click on it to enlarge.

If you wear a necklace I would wear a very simple pendant with similar simple earrings- pearl and/or "diamond". Or, no necklace and statement earrings.
  • I had a halter and I went with a very simple necklace that was just a heart pendant on a chain my husband gave me for our first Christmas.  I also made myself some earrings that had a little sparkle and a little pearl but I wore my hair up.  I think it would look fine with your hair down, but I might go with a little less dangle so it doesn't get tangled in your hair.
  • I'd skip the necklace and go with some nice earrings.  Maybe add a bracelet.
  • I had a halter and I went with a small pearl and crystal pendant.  My earrings and bracelet matched.  I don't like not having a necklace so I wanted something simple and it was perfect.

I like this idea. I'm having a strapless dress and doing a simple pendant necklace (it's either going to be my italian cross that my dad got me in Italy before I was born or my grandma's that he got her the same time he got mine... mine's silver her's is gold so depends what looks best) and a diamond bracelet (my mom's) I don't wear earrings though and like you plan to keep my hair down, so you wouldn't see them anyways.

That was my dress too, good choice!!  I had originally planned on not wearing a necklace, just sparkly earrings and a big bracelet.  But the day before the wedding my dad gave me a diamond and pearl pendant of my grandmother's that I couldn't imagine NOT wearing.  I would say go with something simple like that, because yes the neckline is pretty wide but something too chunky might be a little busy, just a little "bling" will look fabulous though!!

  • I'd skip the necklace and do awesome earrings and a bracelet.
  • I think you could do a simple necklace and statement earrings. Wear what you feel comfortable in.

I would worry a bit about the necklace catching on your halter, even a simple one. It might be uncomfortable.
I'd suggest statement bracelet and earrings, or, if you want serious sparkle, hair jewelry! Even if you're wearing it down, you can add jeweled pins or a simple rhinestone/ crystal band.
  • I see nothing wrong with adding a simple necklace and some nice earrings.  I agree that a bracelet would look nice too but it all depends on you and your personal style!
  • I think a necklace will compete with the neckline of the dress and look sloppy.  It may also be distracting in photos.  Go with earrings and a bracelet, and if you want more, something sparkly in your hair.
