Outdoor photo locations?

I'm getting married in New Orleans in June 2014, but I'm not from there and have never even been there. We are having wedding on cruise ship, which includes a wedding photographer on ship.  But, I don't want ALL of my wedding photos to have ship railing or tacky decor as the background.  So, after returning from the cruise, we want to get dressed up again and do another photo shoot in New Orleans. My MOH is a photographer, so we plan to have her do the shoot, but she doesn't know the area either. Does anyone have any recommendations of which locations would be best to get some amazing posed wedding photos?  Thanks!

Re: Outdoor photo locations?

  • I'd highly recommend City Park New Orleans as there are a million great photo shoots and absolutely breathtaking hundreds of years old oak trees that really capture the beauty of the south...I would just find a way to make sure there aren't other weddings going on at that time, or steer clear of the wedding venues at the park and go to other areas in the park.

I'm actually getting married there next November and I live on the other side of Lousiana now but am new to the state so have only traveled to NOLA a very minimal amount of times so far but I absolutely fell in love with this 1,300 acre park and love the fact that the outdoor photo opportunities are endless.  Good luck to you!

  • We are probably going to be doing the photo shoot on Sunday, so I'm hoping that would eliminate too much wedding congestion, since that's not a major wedding day.  But, I know it doesn't necessarily eliminate them either, since I'm having my wedding on a Sunday.  But, I think we may be able to also be available to do it on Monday, which may be better as far as reduced crowds.

We thought about waiting and doing an outdoor photo shoot when we get back home to Phoenix, especially since we will likely be busy the day we return from the cruise and saying goodbye to everyone. But June is definitely not the time for outdoor photos in AZ, because it is 110 degrees. Plus all the best landscaping/flowers are dried up and dead by then.  There are some beautiful areas here is spring, but we don't really want to wait 10 months to do wedding photos.  Plus, we figure that it would be nice to get some pics in New Orleans, since that is where we are actually getting married.

  • We did our around Frenchman St. You could do that, or around the French Quarter in general. In front of the cathedral and in Jackson Square would be nice. City Park is gorgeous.

Keep in mind that June is going to be very hot and humid, you may want to keep that in mind.
  • If you get your photos done in City Park, make sure to get a permit from City Park to take photographs.  They do give people fines.
  • I got engaged in City Park and my fiancé hired a professional photographer to capture the moment. We didn't have anyone approach us about the photo permit (on a Saturday), but here is the info so you can get one just in case.  It's $50.

Audubon Park is also very pretty!
