When did it hit you?

Wedding's on Friday and it hasn't hit me yet. It hit FI a few weeks ago. I was just wondering when it hit everyone else. My sister said it didn't hit her until the morning of. My best friend said it hit her a week before and my Mom said it hit her when they started playing her song to walk down the aisle.

Re: When did it hit you?

  • I get married in about a month and a half, and it hasn't really hit me yet. Like it kind of has, I'm like woah, I'm actually getting married. But it hasn't hit me as to what it all means.
  • I am still a year out, but when we went out for our "retroversary" I kinda had a "light bulb" but I still feel like its forever away and right around the corner at the same time.

  • I am not married yet but since I am starting to book some of the bigger things like dress alterations and what not it's hit me that OMG I'm getting married. I am sure it will hit me more the day of
  • I got married in April and it hit me right before I started walking down the aisle.

  • I'm not sure I had a big moment where is was like oh my god, this is happening.. maybe when I was waiting at the end of the aisle with my dad and I whispered (I guess I didn't whisper since everyone heard) "let's do this!"

It has definitely not hit me yet. I did however make my first purchase for our wedding yesterday. They were only the favor bags but it made me feel really awesome to get something on the books.

We secured the venue pretty early so I have not done much since then. Still working our guest list to fit our 100 guest limit.

I imagine I'll wake up the day of and be hit then shed a wall of happy tears. I'm sure I'll be overwhelmed with thankfulness for my FI and everyone who has been helping. I'm already surprised at how excited my family and friends are to help. I wasn't expecting it.
  • Mentally, a few days before the wedding, I think. Physiologically, the day before the wedding. I didn't really feel nervous, but I only slept 2 hours the night before the wedding and woke up shaky, on edge, and with an upset stomach. I felt pretty terrible up until we said our vows. :)

I don't think I'm going to be able to sleep at all. So after your vows were you able to start feeling better? Was there* anything that helped you feel better? Trying to prep for this...lol

EDITED: Wow their, they're, there...not all here on a Monday.

Well I drank like half a bottle of Pepto Bismol, so that kinda helped! :) Really, I just tried to breathe deeply, relax, and remember why I was doing this. I took a long shower, kept to myself, and made sure to eat. Mostly, I just went with it. It was my body reminding me that I was about to make a huge, life-altering commitment, so I tried to honor that.

I will say that even though I felt terrible, I had a blast taking pictures, the ceremony was everything we hoped, and the reception was more fun that we could have imagined. So it wasn't that bad!

I didn't really feel myself again till two days later, when we began our honeymoon in the Adirondacks and I could just chill out. The import of marriage was overwhelming, and the wedding ceremony and reception was overstimulating, so it took a while to even out.

You probably won't have the experience I did, but if you do, my best advice is to embrace it, and enjoy yourself anyway!
  • We got married 10 days ago and went on a honeymoon together. It still hasn't hit me.
  • @emmyg65 thanks! I get really anxious when all eyes are on me. Hopefully I can just breathe and focus on my FI.
  • it wasnt until 2 weeks after he proposed that I had my moment I was eating, caught a glimpse of my ring from the corner of my eye and just started crying... like omg I'm getting married I've had about 20 of the moments since but I dont think it's the big omg it's really happening moment that will prob happen the day we sign the marriage license or on my wedding day

Lol I am a sappy sap-monster when I think about our proposal or being his wife. Not the big moment yet either just lots of sad sap moments.
  • I had thought A LOT about it before he proposed, what I would say, etc. I think my big "when it hit me" moment was when he proposed. Like wow, this is really happening!

  • I had my first OMG moment when I saw our names together on the venue contract...haha, contracts, the height of romance. I'm sure I'll have lots more OMG moments to come!!
  • This great! I keep having moments where I think it's hitting me but then....nothing. I have the strangest feeling that when my Mom and I start walking down the aisle that we'll began laughing hysterically. The video footage will be priceless!
  • I had the "OMG, this is really happening" moment the night before the wedding when the baker sent me a picture of our finished wedding cake. And then again the morning of while I was getting hair and make-up done.

my mom is walking me down as well :) I probably will have to laugh too, if I dont I'll prob be crying like a crazy person... knowing me I'll be doing both

That was my first OMG moment too! First time I cried though was when I got home from dress shopping and looked at photos on my phone of me in the dress that would ultimately prove to be "the one." I hadn't cried in the store, but I lost it when I got home, and pretty much haven't stopped crying since, haha. Everything seems to be an OMG moment now. Getting the invitations in the mail. Getting our toasting flutes. Looking at my fiancé as we sit on the couch playing video games. I cry whenever I think about the wedding.

Not sure if that means it's hit me or if I'm in store for an even bigger OMG moment in the weeks leading up to it, but it's definitely made me into a total sap thus far!
  • When we went to pick up our marriage license.

  • Ditto to the big AHA the day of, but I've had a lot of mini-moments and usually go "Hey, guess what...we're getting married!" It's kind of a thing between us. First it was "hey...I'm you're girlfriend/boyfriend!" Then it was "Hey...we're engaged!" Now it's "getting married."
  • It got real when we got our marriage license, but it was not until I was all dressed up; getting ready pics were over and my DOC picked me up to bring me down to the ceremony when I got that oh wow I am getting married! feeling.  It was overwhelming at first but then as soon as I saw my husband standing there at the end of the aisle I quickly relaxed and was just so happy.

  • @prettybird27 , I'm glad to know I'm not the only ugly crier around! I know I will probably cry during the ceremony. The area around my eyes turn red and puffy and my nose turns into Rudolph.

  • I was definitely a crybaby, but I knew I would be. I thought I would cry walking down the aisle (but didn't), I cried reciting my vows, and I cried dancing with my dad.
