cost of salon to travel to venue for hair & makeup?

What have other brides paid for hair & makeup being done at their venue? for yourself, or for bridesmaids as well?

I just got a quote from a salon that seems crazy, so I broke down the costs listed on their website and it looks like they're charging $541 for travel (30 min from salon). Is this normal???

  • That's really high for a travel charge, unless she's requiring a hotel room for the night before because you want her there early.

Traveling hair/make-up can get really expensive, but it depends on the region. Are you sure they have their bridal prices online? That's generally only given in a quote, and often $150+. An updo is not the same as a cut/style.

Wow... it probably depends on your location, since anything wedding related can vary in cost depending on where you are (big cities are usually more expensive).  I have my hair/makeup coming to our hotel in New Orleans and they charge $50 to travel to your location (within city limits). They charge more if outside city limits (up to $150) or on holiday ($250).  We are having them come to our hotel, they are doing my hair & makeup, and hair for 2 bridesmaids for about $250 total cost... and we need to have it done by 8:30 am, so they are coming really early. Honestly, I was actually very surprised with my salons rates.  I was expecting higher costs for wedding hair/makeup, especially early on a Sunday morning, but their prices were very reasonable and they were also very highly recommended.

I would call the salon to clarify the charges.  They should provide you with a cost breakdown of the charges, rather than you having to figure it out yourself.  And definitely call around to other salons for other prices to compare with.

  • That sounds like a lot for just travel. I would try to check out some independant people that may travel for free. I live in DC where everything is very expensive. I found a few different people that work from home or rent out salon space that travel for free. The one I'm leaning towards does a free consultat the salon that her team works at, then hair/makeup trial ($90 each), bride hair/makeup ($90 each), and BM hair/makeup ($60 each). I think these are really good city prices for hotel services. I would do a little more investigating if I got a quote like yours.
  • I am going to a salon, but had gotten a quote from someone who comes to you - they charged $200 for hair/$100 for bridemaid hair, $175 for makeup/$100 for bridemaid makeup.  they also required at least 5 people to be gettign hair/makeup done.
  • Who are you looking at going with?  I live in DC as well and the prices are CRAZY!

  • Do you have a relationship with a Salon?  I've been with the same stylist for 5 years and have a great relationship with her.  As soon as I told her I was engaged she offered to come to us and already started planning what we would need.  It's going to be herself plus an additional stylist and a makeup artist.  We are going to have 8-10 people getting ready.  They are charging us the same as what they would normally in the Salon.  She told me the owner actually perfers that they travel to the site as their Salon is very busy on Saturdays and having your own space is a better experience for the bridal party.

I did do a trial with the make-up artisit and she told me they had four other weddings booked at the Salon for my day so I'm really happy that we are not going there.

  • For me and the girls hair is $60 per girl and makeup is $20 / girl. No travel fee
  • @kgd7357 I am getting in the MD/DC area also, and I am curious who you are going with if you are willing to share :)
  • I'm using Hair by Diane out of Old Town Alexandria. It is a really tiny little salon. She works with a make up artist name Suzanne Lundy. I did a trial this week before I decided to book them for sure. The makeup was really amazing. The hair looked great, but I know I'm going to tweak it a little on another trial (although I will only be paying for one trial). I wont need another makeup trial.

The trials are required, so the bride will end up paying $180 for hair and $180 for makeup. The BM will be $120 for both hair and makeup. What's nice is that you don't need a minimum number either. I am paying for my girls to get either hair or makeup on me, and they can add the other if they want, so I might have 3 girls have hair done and 2 get makeup, and it's not a problem. Also, there is no fee for local travel.

What really made me decide to go with them was that I was having a really bad day, and they just made me feel so comfortable and beautiful.
