Must Have...

Songs played at the reception?  Of course the "popular" songs will change between now and October but there are some good classics that need to be played!

I'm starting to put together a general list for our DJ.  I have complete confidence in him, but wanted to atleast put in my suggestions Smile

Any that you put on your DO NOT PLAY list?

Is it bad that it's only been 4 months and I already can't remember?

    Must play -

    Livin on a prayer
    Pour some sugar on me
    Like a prayer
    Glory days
    Jersey girl
I can't help falling in love
    Poker face
    Beer barrel polka
Build me up buttercup (which is MY song and my DJ didn't have....but he was an @sshole...so we just sang it ourselves without the music)

    Wow, I'm seriously blanking out.

    Do not play -
Chicken dance (per my mom's request)
anyhting by Nickelback (Dh hates them)
anything by Red Hot Chili Peppers (I hate them...not that there was much dance of them making their way it, but I wanted to be sure)

Good post, I need to be thinking about this too!  We only have two songs on our do not play list, both because FI hates them- the big butt song by Sir Mixalot and Love Shack.  I think he's crazy :)

It's tradition where I went to school to end every party with Piano Man by Billy Joel, and everyone stands in a circle with their arms around each other, so that will be our last song of the night for sure.

Ohh yeah our last song of the night was Closing Time because one of the bars in the town where DH and I met always ended with that

This may sound stupid, but during the cocktails, I want all instrumetnal disney songs, and instrumental standards played...

As for the reception, I have no real 'must play' - except the cupid shuffle (inside joke with FI's family). Other than that, I'll probably give the DJ some songs we like and have him kind of do his thing... I feel like I trust his opinion.

I have a HUGE Italian family and it's a tradition for all of the men in the family to get up and sing "Oi Marì" in Italian to the bride for good luck. It is so much fun and the only real 'must' at my wedding. :)

-No no Single Ladies By: Beyonce
    -No Sweet Home Alabama

Some of our MUST PLAYS include

    Jen- What a cute tradition!

GMC- I love the that you family will sing to you in Italian! How special!

I have to have Shook Me All Night Long and Hit Me with your Best Shot for my mom and aunt.  It's "their" songs!

I'm not a huge fan of the chicken dance by I do enjoy the Cupid Shuffle and Electric Slide.  I'm really thankful that my family and friends really like to dance! I'm not sure about FI's family, but who cares!  I'll be having a great time!

Yeah I think a lot just depends on the crowd and if they are dancers.....if so, doesn't really matter too much what the music is! We had a group that was out on the dance floor all night long and would have been there no matter what!

Believe it or not, DH and I got in a pretty heated argument about the Chicken Dance.  I hate it - he loved it.  We played it and I danced, but I hated every second of it but it's his families tradition.

    Must Play:
    Don't Stop Believin - Journey
    Piano Man - Billy Joel
Thriller -- this was GREAT; SO much fun!
A Grease Melody - I'm pretty sure there's a video of this somewhere on FB.... lol

I pretty much just let the DJ decide and he did a great job.  I told him that he could get requests but use his judgement.  DH and I are not big country fans but out in the hicks, most of our friends LOVE country so we had a few songs play but not too many.  It worked out great!

Our no play list was simple - no group dances (Cha Cha Slide, Electric Slide, hokey pokey, etc). People even requested these, but my DJ said no. He was awesome.

Also, we gave him some classical musical (not Disney) songs to play during dinner, and other than that, I trusted him to play songs that were popular/good for dancing.

I hired him to DJ for the night, and that is exactly what he did - without my help.
