Fly or drive?

We're getting married back home- a 6 hour drive away. I'm debating as to if we should drive or fly. The benefit of driving is we'll be able to bring more stuff with us more safely, i.e. my wedding dress. The downside is... we'll have to drive. How are you getting to your nearish destination wedding and why did you decide that route?

Re: Fly or drive?

  • We're driving, but it's only 3.5 hours away. We will also be flying out of a larger city than ours for our honeymoon, and it's easiest to drive because it's on the way back from the DW so we have a family member that is kind enough to drop us off on the way back.

  • We are getting married about 5-6 hours away from home and we are driving. There was never any doubt or consideration otherwise. Driving was not only MUCH more cost effective it also allows us to "control" so many more aspects of the trip (when we leave, what we can bring with us, take home with us, etc etc).
  • 6 hours isn't too far of a drive at all! It would probably be way cheaper too which is always nice. I would drive if it was that close haha
  • I would LOVE to drive. @mmm4763 has it so right - it's the only way to claim a little control on your trip. Any delays will be up to you guys, and you have the added bonus of a road trip on the way to your wedding, which sure, might result in some stress arguments, but mainly it's the last time you guys will be alone before you are husband and wife. Soak up that time. Stop at a pie stand. Take pictures at that tourist stop you always make fun of. Make it a treat.

I didn't even consider taking home gifts! That definitely adds another pro in the driving column.
