Show me your furbabies!

Re: Show me your furbabies!

  • @hstanek - Another Pyr owner!  Are/were yours as stubborn as mules like mine is?

@Amapola14 - How could anyone get sick of that cute, cute face?!?

  • @minskat30 - Denali was a beast and a monster all wrapped up into one big furball!!  She was the smartest dog ever - she'd watch how I did something and then figure out how she could do it (open doors, turn on faucets to drink out of, etc).  She knew her commands, but she refused to listen unless I had a treat in hand (unless I told her to 'hug' - she LOVED to hug.  I had to train her a bad hug 'cause she was a little clumsy, so I'd put my arm out and say 'give me a hug' and she'd jump and put her front paws on my arm).

Loki is SLIGHTLY better... He wants to see a treat in hand but if he sees me getting mad he'll listen.  He's my protector and came to me later in life and I think he was abused in his previous home.

With Nessie - she's too easy, she trained easy, she listens to me and most owners would think she's a DREAM of a dog... I miss the challenge.  I couldn't do another Pyr when I got her because of how Denali had passed - another Pyr just wouldn't have been Denali (I don't think I'll ever be 100% over her passing).

Pyrs being stubborn is part of the breed - most people don't seem to get their job is/was to protect their flock and never really had to take commands from humans.  I could talk for DAYS about my dogs and their respective breeds!!

  • @Amapola14 - NEVER sick of Maggie. EVER.

  • Gah how could I NOT post pictures of my fur babies. Buddy is the cat, he is half-demon like @swazzle and @brisox81's cats. Quigley is the dog, he's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and will be two this month!

Buddy is kind of the cutest cat I have ever seen. I thought you should know that. As his mom.

Thanks! He acts like an asshole. I just was making a sandwich and he was biting my feet while I was making it. What a jerk!

  • @hstanek - Oh my god, they're like bears! Love love love!

  • @buddysmom80 - Bailey just tried to walk across the top of my (flat-screen) TV.

We need to put Buddy, Brady, and Bailey on a fucking island of misfit cats.

You and I are friends now.  :)  It is so hard to "train" a Pyr.  I've had big guard dogs my entire life (German Sheps, Akitas, Dobs, etc.) and every single one of them has been a breeze to train.  I knew what I was getting into when I got a Pyr (i.e. trained to guard a flock without any human direction or interaction really).  I, foolishly, thought I was well equiped for it but our Rajah is just independent.  He does what he wants, when he wants...not to spite but just because he "knows" it is better for his flock.  And, yes, H and I call each other his "sheep" (i.e., "is that sheep going to the store, oh no!").

That said, I get what you mean completely...I don't know if I could get another Pyr after this.  Not because of the challenge but because I don't know how another dog would replace his personality (and, again, I've had a lot of dogs that I've grieved for but moved on).  He's just another monster altogether in my mind because he, honestly, pulled me out of my shell with his fierce independence, generaly goofy nature and a love that I feel like I've earned with a LOT of patience.

  • All these big dogs are making me soo happy! I want a big dog so bad but it's difficult with my allergies!

@lalalaurita - Your dog has stolen my heart. He's so scruffy and adorable and I love it!

  • @Jaydee4219 awww thanks!

@Shiroyasha your dog is SO cute, how old is he? Also how did you decide to name your cat Vergil? That's one I've never heard before. As previously stated, I like pets with human names :)

  • @Lalalaurita: Thanks! She's half Cardigan Corgi and half Queensland Heeler and all loveable energy. Freddie is about 9 months old or so.  She was 11 weeks when we got her and I lost track after she hit 6 months.   Vergil got his name because he was trying to chew Playstation cords while I was trying to battle a video game boss of the same name.  I was so frustrated with both that I called him Vergil and he reacted to that better than the other name he was given when I got him.  Thus, Vergil became Vergil.  Sort of an odd story.

I love animals with human names, but I love to give them odd nicknames. Hence Olive is Lala, Wubwub, Lolcat, OllieLollie, and Pudge.  Freddie is Monster, Midget, and Mutt.  Vergil is Verge, Mr. Merrr, FattyCatty (cuz he's HUGE), and my Purrbaby.

I do that too! My dog Dave also answers to Doggles and (on his more dignified days) Sir David Dogglesworth.

  • I want a furbaby.

    I want all the babies!
  • I'm on H's computer and he doesn't have any pictures of my parent's doggies on here. BLASPHEMY! It's all good though, I'll add some later. I love all of these though, especially the catinthebox pictures! Those are making me lose it!
  • This is our fur baby Maximus whom we adopted in July. He is the sweetest, and goofy to boot!

  • @lalalaurita - just when I didn't think it could be any better, you hit me with Sir David Dogglesworth. I'm DYING.

Violet also goes by Vi, Fluffy Butt, Pupper, Puppy, Pretty Girl, and (my favorite) Moose.

Brady gets Buddy, Bubby, Sir, Mister, Fluffmonster, Fluffer, and (my usual) Monster.

I would feel bad for whoever is running that island!

Last night Buddy decided to do his meow, jump over the baby gate to his room, meow and jump over the gate again all night. Then knocked off Christmas ornaments from the dining room table (that were still wrapped in paper, but STILL). He was a little shit last night.

  • I love evil cat stories! I feel bad because it must suck watching it happen but listening to them is the funniest thing ever!
  • Last night when I was falling asleep I heard a rustling sound in the kitchen and then a small crash. I went to the kitchen to find my cat, Rocky, on the counter and the plastic container with my muffins on the ground open. I have also woken up to a lamp being knocked over with a broken lightbulb and a broken vase!

Oh no! That's the bad thing about cats. Dave is a naughty little dog but at least he can't get up on the counter.

I learned the hard way that it's a okay to load either the dog or the groceries in the back seat, but not both at the same time. While backing out of the driveway, I turned around and caught Dave with a guilty look and a shredded package of butter.

    @BriSox81 he is quite dignified!

  • In the spirit of the holidays, Bailey is the reason I can't have nice things. This is our (fake) tree from 3 years ago.

  • @swazzle, makes me feel better about last year's fake tree we held together with duct tape (it was ~20 years old in my defense, and we did replace it this year).
  • Brady has very little regard for personal space.

    image

One of his favorite things is the shower. He will get in the tub after anyone gets out of the shower & chase water droplets down the curtain. He also loves the sink, and will chase me around in the morning until I go into the bathroom, where he jumps on the sink and SCREAMS at me until I turn the water on so he can drink from it. He's very loud, most of the time, anyway. We have full conversations.
