Wedding Etiquette Forum

Thank you from a slacker in etiquette!

This board became my life saver during my wedding. (11/30/13) I can honestly say I did not know ANYTHING involving wedding etiquette. You saved me from making a ton of mistakes at my wedding. (IE- gap, cash bars, bridesmaid/MOH "duties", STD etiquette, Registry etiquette, etc.) I actually appreciated the snark of this board because ultimately, it was honest answers. I have learned so much and am now fascinated by weddings. This board helped open my eyes to a LOT and I am so appreciative!

I wish more people would know about the etiquette involving weddings, such as I had 36 NO SHOWS. Overall, even with that, the day still went fabulously and I had many compliments on how things went. I also have many friends planning their weddings and I've pointed them in this direction so they can learn, too!

Thanks again!!

  • Congrats on your wedding! I don't mind the snark either because it really is just honesty. And it's amusing!

Any idea why so many no shows (e.g.: a weather issue)?

Unfortunately, no. I've heard from one family (4 people) that their close friend fell from a ladder on the day and they stayed at the hospital with him. (Understandable!) Another family (3), didn't feel good. (But posted on FB that they went to see Hunger Games.) That is all I have heard from. I haven't made an effort to reach out to the rest to ask or mention it. (I think that is the proper etiquette, right?)
  • I'm not sure the etiquette, but my sense is that one shouldn't reach out to follow up. But if it's a person you have close relationship with, that you talk to regularly, I would probably ask out of concern.
  • 36 no shows? How many people did you have attend? That seems pretty high. Seeing the Hunger Games? That is bullshit. No, you can't ask, but I'd be pissed about it.

We ended up with 253 in attendance!

Well, I hope you had a fabulous time with the 253!
  • Sounds like still a pretty successful turnout! I say it's those 36 people who missed out on a great time! I'm sure it beat hunger games any day!
  • 36 no-shows is awfully high!  My sister had only 4 no-shows, and that was annoying enough as it is.
Do you have any pictures yet?  Share, share!!!

  • It was pretty annoying- financially AND space wise haha! Here are some pictures-

In this one, I'm reading the note he wrote to me before the wedding and has his brother come deliver to me. :)

  • I am also a big fan of the etiquette board! It made me realize the poor etiquette of weddings I've been to in the past and also what to avoid doing for mine.  So far, we're smooth sailing, due in large part to what I've read on here!  Fiance also loves the board when I read him some of the posts/ responses. :)

  • I feel you on the no-shows.  I had quite a few at my wedding.  Just means I have fewer Christmas cards to send out this year.  I'm sure those no shows were missing out!
