NWR- Hair Salons

Ok, so I know there are a lot of posts with people asking where they should get their hair done for their wedding. Since that is a year away for me, I don't have to worry about that yet.

However, I moved to Pitt last July and I have yet to find a hairdresser here. I loved the one I went to in Louisville (in fact she is now a friend and will be coming to my wedding) but I don't forsee myself going to Louisville for a while and my hair needs to be cut. Bad.

I have very curly hair, but I also wear it stick straight sometimes. So I need someone who can work with curly hair and cut it in a way that will look good straight (for straight haired girls this may sound srange but there is a different technique to cutting curly hair, but it looks funny when its straight).

So if anyone can suggest a salon or hairdresser in the area that would be great! I live on the South Side, but I am willing to drive wherever  :-)

Hi!  I have super curly hair and also have a hard time finding a hair dresser I like.  I go to Studio Raw (in the North Hills, Ross Township), and Jillian cuts mine.  With curly hair, generally a dry cut is the way to go.  I told her exactly what you said, I need something that looks good curly and will look good straightened, and I love it.  She's lovely :o)

Brooke Rockwell across from Mellon Arena in Washington Plaza.  I have curly, wavy, thick, coarse hair (it's a mess) that I wear straight all the time.  I've been going to her for almost 5 years and she cuts my hair the best.  I'v been to many salons in the city and it is hard to find someone who can cut curly hair so I know exactly what you're talking about.

I am so glad someone else understands the need for someone who can cut curly hair well! It's not something that hairstylists deal with all the time so some really don't know how to cut it and I look like I have a pyramid on my head!

Do you stylists do color for you as well? I do get all over color and highlights.

I have very thick hair and have been going to my aunt since I was three. Since that's not feasible 1700 miles away, I bounced around from salon to salon to salon when I moved to Pittsburgh. I now go to Salon Christine and see Christine. She's great for color and has curly thick hair herself so she "gets it." Her salon was at 10th and Penn Ave downtown but she's moving to Lawrenceville. Good luck with the search!
