Wedding Invitations & Paper

"Formalizing" invite kits on a budget

I've picked up my invites, a couple of box invitation kits from Michael's that were on clearance for a really good price. The invites are a classic champagne color with sheer lighter champagne lace border and includes ribbon. I've started the research process of ways to "fancy" up the invites or make them more formal and elegant because I've learned that invitations can help guests determine the type of wedding it'll be which is helpful for attire and etc.

Although we're having a more formal affair, not black tie, we're on a budget. I really don't want to spend much money on stationary that'll end up in the trash anyways. I much rather spend that money towards the open bar or what have you. My question for you lovely ladies is, what are some suggestions or options to give these invites a more formal feel?

So far I like these ideas:
Going to a printer press instead of at home printing, using higher quality ribbon, and using formal wording.
