What are you giving your S/O for Christmas?

Re: What are you giving your S/O for Christmas?

  • It's cool @smalfrie19 I could see how my use of "rule" could be all- yikes she's crazy. The PS3 will replace both the blu ray player and the Wii. Two wins for my classroom.
  • Wow, wallets seem to be popular gifts this year. Which is funny, seeing how I got BF a wallet. I also got him a Rooster Teeth shirt that he's been wanting for a while.

BF and I go small on holidays. We told each other that we wouldn't spend more than $60 this year because we are both low on cash. The funny thing is that our totals came out to within a dollar of each other. We were both there when our perspective gifts were being purchased. I know I'm getting earrings and a Rooster Teeth shirt and BF knows he's getting a wallet and a shirt. The wallet and earrings were within a dollar of each other, and the shirts were the same price. Plus, we combined shipping on our shirts and got a better deal, so there's that.

We are very much practical givers. We like our gifts to be something that the other wants, needs, and likes. We always try to keep it a secret, but it ends up getting out in the end.

  • I'm not giving my partner a wallet this year, since we weren't supposed to get Christmas gifts, and I got him a watch for our anniversary. He tends to hang on to his belongings until they're completely destroyed; the last watch he had was a plastic digital one with a velcro band that he had since he was a kid. I was so excited when I could finally give him an adult man's watch. His wallet is horrendous--a navy blue velcro piece of crap that's falling apart that he's had since he was 12.

I'd give him a new one for his birthday, but I'm spending like ... $250 on his birthday. There's dinner at fancypants restaurant, the surprise birthday party that I need to finish sneak-shopping for, and the incredibly expensive scotch I bought him.

  • This year I was going to go all out and spend a lot updating his wardrobe because all he has are old t-shirts and jeans.  But unexpected expenditures came up and now I have no idea what to get him at all, not to mention my next check is pretty much accounted for with the exception of him.  He got to play a PS4 and he wants one, but I can't even afford that if I didn't have to spend a penny on anything else.  I was thinking of getting him a gift card to a nearby outdoorsman store, but then I'd feel lame compared to what he got me. Then again, I would rather him pick out his own stuff than try to pick something out that he won't want.

  • My budget isn't huge this year, but I saw a great groupon getaway for a romantic weekend at an inn in a town about an hour drive from where we live. We've never been and I thought it would be a great gift so I went with it! It includes a couples massage and 1 or 2 nights in a suite. They also have a nice restaurant there. I was thinking of booking valentine's day weekend, but wasn't sure if that would just be too much. I guess I'll just have to look at our calendars!

Video games are always my fall back gift option. Although a wallet also sounds great. BF has this wallet with the Chicago L stops, and it is pretty much shredded, but he loves it. I don't have the heart to replace it...this year!
  • I got him a new pair of sweatpants and a new thermos for hunting. I'll also get a couple of books that we can read together in the car and over break. We didn't set a budget, but we both know we can't do too big of gifts, since we're both still in college.
  • I bought FI a new car last month, so he wasn't supposed to get anything for Christmas. But we just got internet in our house so I caved and bought him Call of Duty:Ghost for his PS3.

  • We always set a limit. This year it's really small though because we're saving for the move (if he gets the job).

So I got him a new Age of Empires game, a board game, and a bunch of sexy time stuff. All of which he was thrilled about. :) He spent the rest of the day and a good part of the time yesterday planing the new AoE game so I think he likes it.

We set a limit of $50. I got him the Fast and Furious 6 movie and this mini punching bag to put on his desk at work (his boss is frustrating haha). I am still $11 under budget, not sure what else I could get him...
    Cigars?
Good idea but he's not a fan of cigars.
