NWR: Why does gift giving have to be so hard?

Once again, this is a mom rant.  (I really should preface this stuff by saying I love my mom, she's just a handful sometimes).  My mom had asked me a while ago to order her some stuff from this cosmetics website where we both shop, so we could combine our orders and save on shipping.  I texted her to ask what shade she wants.  She texts me back and goes into this discussion of Light vs. Fair.  Then: "Don't order it, I'm too broke to pay you back."

This is a Christmas gift hint, right?  Otherwise why would she tell me the color?  The problem is, I already bought her stocking stuffers and had decided on DIY gifts because I'm pretty broke, too.  The items she wanted are about $50.  I know the obvious decision is don't buy it because it's over budget, but now I feel guilty.  I really wish I could just get it for her, and it sucks that I can't.

Meanwhile, I'm completely stuck on Fi, whom I actually don't yet have a present for and should really know what he wants.  Facepalm.

Edited: grammar.

  • If it makes you feel any better, I have done zero Xmas shopping. And I'm exchanging gifts with my family this Saturday, so I need to get my butt in gear. And I have no idea what to get for anyone.

At least I'm not alone in this! :)

  • When I end up in a situation like that, I usually pass the suggestion along to someone else (namely, a man) who needs to buy a gift for that person and doesn't know what to get.

  • I'm with you all on not having done any shopping yet. I feel like Christmas snuck up on me this year... My tree isn't up yet, nor are my lights, and I don't even remember all of the people I have to buy for! Ah well.

  • DH and I are *almost* done Christmas shopping, blessedly, but it's been something of a hassle. We are exchanging gifts with his family (or at least those of them we see) this weekend, so that's been something of the impetus to get our butts in gear.

  • Maybe she thought she could afford it when you originally discussed it but now can't. I wouldn't assume it to be a hint, though you know you mom and that may be her style.

I did a bunch of shopping this weekend and went way over budget and am only halfway done. I love gift giving, I just wish it were free haha.

FI and myself are not exchanging gifts but I really want to get him some new sweat pants (suuuper romantic, right?)

Fi got me sweatpants for Valentine's Day this year and I am wearing them right now!  Romantic, so what?  They're cozy!

Ha. I got Fi sweatpants and flannel pj pants this year. He didn't own any sweatpants and would take mine which I have more than I need but they're MINE (jk), so I convinced our alumni college to sell their sweatpants online so I could get him a pair :)
