*headdesk*

How do you go about convincing a friend that having a shower for her second baby when her first just turned ONE is a bad idea?

I don't know how many ways I can tell her the word shower essentially means "bring me gifts".

She thinks every baby deserves to be celebrated and I am all on board with that! But a SHOWER is not the way....

  • Well to have a shower someone is supposed to throw you one. Is there a willing shower-thrower in this case? If she''s arranging it all herself she gets a double *headdesk* And I definitely would not attend if it were me

Her husband's family wants to throw her a shower. But I am trying to persuade her to decline and instead just have a baby themed celebration and not bill it as a "shower". People who want to give gifts will regardless... but to me a shower will make people feel obligated to bring gifts.

  • How far apart are her babies? That's the only reason I don't judge second baby showers for #2 if they're 5+ years apart. Not even the other gender.

However, the ship said a year and a month ago for this greedy mama. I'm firmly in the camp that once the child is born, there is no more window for a shower.

her first just turned a year in November and her second is due in may.

  • Oops, reading fail. I guess I thought she wanted to have a shower for her one year old. Didn't realize she was pregnant. Yeah, that's still a big negative. People will give her gifts if they want to. Knowing me, I'd probably plan on giving one, but if they threw a shower, I would decide not to.
