Update on the PPD

FI just forwarded me an email from his work email. It was scanned copies of the invitation to the PPD with a quick note at the bottom saying to RSVP by Xmas...The groom was nice enough to also scan the original RSVP card that showed the date being a week ago along with the lovely your presence is gift enough but we'd like money, gift cards and here's our registry. Since the PPD isn't until April I almost wonder if there is a C and D guest list as well.

I need to come up with plans ASAP for that weekend since FI STILL doesn't see anything wrong with this shitshow and wants to go. I should point out with this many issues there will probably be a cash bar, that MIGHT convince him.

Re: Update on the PPD

  • Schedule an elective surgery or an OBGYN appointment for that day, then tell him, "Oh gee honey, I'd LOOOOVE to be able to go but I have to go to *insert Dr here* for *insert procedure here* and that was the only date available between now and next Christmas."

I love this. My IUD is supposed to come out in June I'm sure I can push it up a few weeks and FI will definitely miss the PPD for that. He's worried if I go alone I'll decide not to get a new one since I've had a serious case of baby fever the last few months. (For the record I would never trick FI into knocking me up)
Off-topic question: I assume you like your IUD?  I've been thinking about getting one, and all this news about the NuvaRing lawsuit has me a little concerned.

JCBride2014 Yes I love it. I was horrible remembering to take the pill and it made me gain weight so the IUD was perfect. It definitely hurt like a bitch when I got it, but it went away pretty fast. Best part is I've gotten my period like 3 times in four and a half years.

ETA: I do recommend getting the Mirena instead of the copper IUD, everyone I've known with the copper one had the opposite effect in terms of their period. My former coworker ended up having it removed after her period lasted three weeks straight.

I'm on Nuvaring. What's the lawsuit?
  • Mirena is the BEST EVER. I haven't gotten my period in a year.

I know it's totally unrelated to the point of the thread, but I love this damn thing.

I have the copper one! My period is heavier, and the first period was brutal (like in bed all weekend dying of cramps), but it calmed down after that. It's still a little heavier than normal, but I've always had a very easy and pretty light period, so it's not that big of a deal to me. I'm glad to be free of hormones, personally.

But I definitely would not have been attending a wedding the day of or after my IUD insertion, fo sho!

cruffino the levels of hormones are higher in nuvaring so there's been a higher rate of blood clots which can be deadly.

  • @cruffino I haven't actually read the lawsuit.  It might be trumped up, idk.  I've heard the progestin levels are higher and it can cause blood clots.  I'm also on NuvaRing and I love it personally.  I've been on it for years without adverse effects.  I'm kind of a wuss and I don't want to go through the IUD insertion process.  But the women who got blood clots say they never saw it coming, so it sounds a little scary.

Any sort of birth control can cause clots. It's a known side effect. Everytime my doctor switched my brand of pill she sent me for a blood test. NuvaRing just has a higher chance of it happening. But it's still extremely rare, just less rare than the pill.

  • If he wants to go, let him. You don't have to. Or you could take one for the team and post a play by play for the rest of us.
I do like reading the recaps of these train wrecks so it coiuld be fun getting to tell you all :) FI thinks this site is what made me so judgey about the PPD, but I think the only new thing I'm judging is the fact that its a PPD.

Also I think I figured out how to get out of the box! I just refreshed the page 3 times and finally escaped!

You can also go into the code (press the <> button) and delete anything that looks like this: < blockquote > or < / blockquote > without the spaces.  If you want plan text, just delete all the code.  It's annoying but it works.

  • I've been on NuvaRing since May and I. LOVE. IT. but good to know about the lawsuit.... but, frankly, I could care less if I wind up with deadly blood clots. I'm in too much student loan debt to fear death.
  • I 100% recommend implanon. The arm implant. More a tends to... Bother men who are ... Well endowed. My FI got a nasty scratch (ouchie!) AND he managed to dislodge it making it INEFFECTIVE! I had to have it taken out.

I am not the only one who this has happened to either :/

Before FI though I LOVED mirena!
  • Nuvaring actually has less estrogen than a traditional pill (pills have anywhere from 20 - 50mcg of estrogen, most have 35, nuvaring releases 15mcg daily- lower than the lowest pill). But there are still SOME people who get clots so the lawyers are all over it.

For the record, if you're healthy the pill or nuvaring actually LOWER your risk of blood clots compared to not using any birth control- because the risk of blood clots in pregnancy is WAY higher than with either the pill or the ring, and your risk of getting pregnant is so much higher without contraception.

But mirena and implanon (newer version: nexplanon) are fabulous too.
OP, I love the idea of an IUD removal/reinsertion appt the day of this PPD!

Your FI knocked an IUD out of your cervix?

@clairekundinger I'm sorry but I'm really really confused by the bolded, especially "more a tends to."  Also, what do you mean by well endowed?  I assume you mean in the family jewels, but I can't see how you could scratch him there with your upper arm?  That would have to be one interesting position!  Or do you mean well endowed as in heavy?

I read this as an autocorrect, I think she meant Mirena.  Which then makes the second part of the statement make sense-- although that's pretty crazy!  My guess is maybe the IUD was not implanted correctly?  Because isn't it inside your uterus-- so how could he get up there?  Wow, that sounds like it hurt though.

Assuming she means the Mirena scratched him this makes sense. FI has injured himself a time or two, but I've had it checked and it's still in there properly. The strings and end do go through the cervix so if your large and deep enough there's definitely some contact. FI has tried to be a little more careful since it isn't pleasant for either of us when he hits it.

Ok, that makes more sense.  It sounded to me like he dislodged the Implanon, and I'm not sure that's even possible.  I suppose if he rubbed her arm too much or picked at it maybe? :p

Yea, and then I was imagining as many different positions as I could where her upper arm would scratch his jewels.

  • The only thing that should be in your uterus are the strings. So if someone knocked the IUD loose, it probably means it was already falling out to begin with.

My fiance does occasionally feel the strings, but I believe they're supposed to soften with time.

  • I'm on cerazette which is a progesterone only... you take it everyday without a week off. It's fantastic. After a year on it with random periods, I now only get a couple days of light spotting every 3-4 months. I feel sooo much better on it.

Yeah, it's usually not a pleasant experience to have someone banging on your cervix, IUD or no.

  • i've had friends and family use Rhythm method for years and only became preg when they wanted to... I however am not good enough with dates to try to keep track of all that mess... Generic Sesonale for me, a pill I can remember!
  • NFP is far more reliable than the rhythm method. The use of any hormonal birth control will increase your risk of blood clots and cancer.

Actually hormonal BC reduces your risk of ovarian and uterine cancer.

Combined estrogen and progestin contraceptives can cause liver cancer and they increase the risk of breast and cervical cancer. Your statement isn't incorrect but it isn't complete either.

Blood clots have been known to form in healthy women on hormonal BC. There's just too much data out that convinces me on science alone (and not just my faith) that there are better options.

I have never heard of a link between BC and liver cancer, that is news to me- seems like BC may cause an increased risk of developing benign liver tumors.  And the most recent studies say that the increased risk of breast cancer is very slight.

Since ovarian and uterine cancers are pretty nasty and can be hard to diagnose until they are progressed, I like decreasing my chances of developing them. . . not trying to change your opinion or BC method by any means.

Honestly, the longer we live we have an increased risk of developing some form of cancer :/
