So FI and I got engaged on Sunday!! I've been waiting to tell all you lovely hoars on NEY because I wanted to tell @southernpeach89 in person first. It's all her fault because she's got a new job and she's an OMH so she's really busy and I wasn't able to meet with her until this morning.
All of last week FI (I keep wanting to type BF!) kept saying how much he wanted to get out this weekend and go hiking. It's been raining a ton here and we've pretty much been stuck inside or with family because of the wedding/Thanksgiving/etc. Of course it ends up raining on Saturday so our plans to get out of the house got pushed back a little. Sunday we go north to Dahlonega, GA which is where the Georgia Gold Rush began back in the early 1800s. It's a cute little town with fun boutiques, a beautiful college campus, loads of historical buildings, stuff like that. We took the dog with us and walked her around. Took a picture with Santa, bought some Christmas presents, etc.

After we were done shopping we looked up the hiking trail we were trying to get to on the map and started the 30 minute drive further up into the mountains. On our way I got super car sick because the roads were more windy than we realized so we stopped at this cute little convenience store/cabin rental business to buy some Dramamine. And then we missed our turn so we went a little further north and ran into what is basically a waystation for hikers on the Appalachian Trail. There was a really cool old tree out in front of it covered in worn out hiking boots so we stopped and took some pictures and walked around a little bit.
Finally we turned around and made our way back to our intended destination - DeSoto Falls. We get to the park and at this point it's going on 4:30. There's a sign that points one way for the lower falls (1/4 mile) or the upper falls (3/4 mile). Since we didn't want to be in the woods after dark...especially in an area with a heavy black bear population we decided to do the shorter hike. We went up a fun little switchback trail and stopped a took a few more pictures with FI's DSLR. We finally get onto the wooden platform that overlooks the falls and they are absolutely gorgeous! We pretty much just stood around and took some more pictures (all on the DSLR so I don't have any to share yet
) and made sure the dog didn't decide to try diving off the platform into the water. I turned around because Cinders was trying to eat something and when I turned back around T was down on one knee with an open ring box in his hand!!! True to form I called him a jerk for completely surprising me and just started laughing out of shock. He waited for what felt like an agonizing 5 minutes but was probably really only a few seconds and finally asked me to marry him. So I pretended to think about it and then said yes! We stayed up there for awhile longer and kissed and said a bunch of sweet romantic things to each other. It was so wonderful and private and perfect and simple. We were all alone out in the woods and it just felt right.
Anyway ring porn! Cause it's the only picture I have right now. All the others of us, the falls, etc. are on his phone and DSLR of course.
