So, I'm on this crazy diet...

After suffering for a few months, I finally realized that I have candida. FI has it too. Here's some info on it:

So I went to the health food store and bought myself a bunch of treatments. One of the important things to do while trying to get rid of candida is changing your diet. These are things I'm supposed to avoid:

wheat
yeast
sugar
honey
coffee
dairy
condiments
dressings
fruit

Basically all the things I love. I am DYING. I am so hungry. Did I mention that I work at a pastry manufacturer? Right now I'm surrounded by cookies and chocolate and cheesecake. All while I'm eating dry fucking lettuce. Hooray.

  • Did you talk to a doctor about this?
  • Ditto @missunshine17: did you have the confirmed with a doctor?

I went to my gyno multiple times for help with UTIs and yeast infections. They basically gave up on me. And not once did any of them mention candida or trying to change up my diet. I've been doing this since Sunday and I already notice a relief in symptoms.
I also have a slight wheat allergy so it's actually good for me to cut this stuff out of my diet.
  • Then best of luck! What diet were you on that caused the candida? Or do you mean that because of the candida, you are now on a crazy diet?

Thanks! Because of the candida, I'm now on this diet.
  • Are you able to have stevia?  It's an all natural zero calorie sweetener that I use in baking sometimes to replace sugar.  If you can I can give you a really kickass chocolate cake recipe that doesn't have anything on your list in it.  It's gluten free and vegan, I've been making it at work for years and it's always a hit :)

  • I thought a yeast infection IS candida?
  • At lot of those items end up in refined foods anyway which are generally bad for you. Are you sure about the no fruit though?  That seems a bit excessive.  Although fruit has sugar it also has fiber so it shouldn't spike your blood sugar and cause problems.

I can recommend things like Larabars and Pure Organic bars as snacks which are low-glycemic, made with nothing but dry fruit and nuts, and are very filling when you're hungry.  Generally if you google low-glycemic foods and try to stick to those you should be good.
  • Sounds like a low-carb diet. Make sure you're getting enough protein and fat to make up for the lost carbs, or you'll feel like a microwaved turd.

Stevia is actually listed on the approved items.

The only fruits that are allowed are lemons, limes, fresh cranberries and Granny Smith apples. It does specifically say to avoid any dried fruits like raisins.

A microwaved turd is exactly how I feel. Ugh. I did eat a lot of chicken yesterday.
  • Ok, since you can have stevia you can have everything in this recipe.  It's normally vegan because the egg is replaced with applesauce, but since you can't have fruit you'll have to use egg.  If you were to make this again when you're off the diet and use sugar instead of stevia, double the amount- when you use baking stevia you cut the amount in half.

    1/2cup rice flour
    1/4 cup stevia
    1/2 cup cocoa powder
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup coconut milk (Almond or rice milk works fine as well)
    4 tablespoons canola oil
1 egg (2 tablespoons applesauce if you make it when you're not on the diet)
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla

  • Oh so sorry! FIL's girlfriend had that and she had the most awful sores on the bottom of her feet. She was really sick for a number of months. I hope that you kick this fast!
  • It sounds like the paleo diet. May be some good ideas for recipes.
