Day after Christmas...

And I am at work. Boooo! It is soooo quiet in the office today, and there isn't anything to do. Hope you all had a good holiday :) I am so glad it is over lol. I'm tired from spending so much time with family. I'm looking forward to New Years, where we can party with friends lol. What's everyone doing for NYE?

Re: Day after Christmas...

  • I'm at work too. It's painfully slow. But I'm off Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

For NYE, my friends and I (along with our SOs) rented a big house in the Poconos. We're going to eat and drink and celebrate. Oh, and utilize the hot tub. I can't wait!
  • It is definitely painfully slow. I did not take any time off for the holidays so I will be here :/ I'm considering working from home on Monday, though because I really have nothing to do here.

That sounds like soooo much fun! Wow, I wish my friends and I were doing something fun like that :) We still don't have any plans, maybe just go to someone's house for a party.

  • I avoid NYE activities like the Plague. We are currently traveling, so I am looking forward to just getting home and relaxing for NYE.

Fi and I are undecided about NYE.  It's usually the one holiday we never spend with family, but FBIL and his Fi have had a big party at their house for the past few years and they are really pushing for us to come this year.  I love them but I'm not sure I want to go after what happened at Christmas (see my post from last night, ugh).  I think we need some distance right now.

One of my best friends is currently visiting from Australia.  I think I'll ask her if she wants to hang out NYE... maybe we'll find a party in Jersey City/ Hoboken/ Brooklyn and avoid Manhattan.

ETA: I love NYE in theory.  I am a huge girly girl and really into fashion, I love to get dressed up, I love going to a bar/ lounge and dancing, someplace with a great DJ.  But when you add NYE craziness in New York into that mix, I just end up wanting nothing to do with it.  There is no part of me that wants to pay $150 for two hours of open bar, fight with crowds, and come home at 4AM in the freezing cold.  Actually I think I might have just made up my mind to stay home.

  • I'm at work too, cheers! We take up 4 floors in our building and I think *maybe* there are 10 people here. I think I might go for a mani on my lunch to perk up the day at least...

We typically don't do much for New Years, and I expect to follow the trend :)

  • Yea, it is so eerie here today lol. I am one of like 10 people here as well. Relaxing and not doing much for NYE sounds good actually haha. All this holiday stuff has me exhausted! @JCBride2014, I just read your post, sounds horrible! I'm sorry Christmas turned into such an issue. Families need to lower their expectations for the holidays.

I am totally with you also about NYE in Manhattan. I did the whole party $150 NYE bash at a club, with open bar, champagne toast at midnight, etc and it was HORRIBLE. The club was overcrowded, the "food" was disgusting and cold, the bar was packed, and it took literally half an hour to get drinks. Never again. Another year we watched the ball drop at Times Square. Never again lol. And now that I think about going to someone's house for a party, having to come back at like 4AM.... I think staying at home is sounding better and better!

  • @JCBride2014 I'm so with you on the NYE Manhattan madness. Too many times I've paid $$$$ and dressed up and took the train in only to be disappointed. It's never as fun as I imagine it's going to be. It's impossible to get a cab. And when you can find a cab, they want to charge you $60 to go 10 blocks. Fuck that noise!
  • @pinkcow13 and @ClimbingBrideNY: Agreed... I just can't take it!  We have a lot of great night life we can walk to, so I think we might go out in the neighborhood.  It should be less crazy.

  • I'm at work today too. I basically live here.

We have no NYE plans yet, though we like to party so we will come up with something. Probably hold a small party at our place.
  • Also at work, practically alone and doing nothing. Christmas was fun but I'm worn out from being with people so much. We'll take it easy this weekend. A friend of mine has a big but low-key party every New Year's Eve and we're looking forward to doing that.
  • We're going to my great-aunt's house for NYE. It's a family tradition. We all (and my all I mean all 40 of us) go over there and eat snacks and play games.
  • I'm thoroughly enjoying the day after Christmas because I saved vacation days so I'd have the rest of the week off :)

Sorry you're stuck working. I put in many years of working holidays and surrounding days when I was in retail, so I feel for you!

This year, we are having a house party at my friend's for NYE. We're all dressing up and making delicious food. There will definitely be dancing! I'm really looking forward to it. Last year we all got a hotel package and it was fun, but expensive. This year will be a fraction of the cost and I know we'll have just as much fun.

  • I'm stuck working too :/ it's pretty slow here as well.

I have to work my serving job NYE, not sure til how late. FI is probaly going to come in with some friends and get some drinks, then once I get off we'll hit another bar.
  • I'm at work today, and it's really slow which is good because BF's grandma just kept topping off my wineglass yesterday and evidently I have no self-control. Blech.

I really really want to do something NYE, but I'm in a very rural area, I'm not going home this year (usually I do), and I have to work the 1st. Does anyone have any ideas?
  • KeptInStitches Lol I don't have self control myself when people top off my wineglass. Hmm, maybe you and BF can do something for the 2 of you at home. Dinner, make a pitcher of sangria or margarita's, and pop some champagne open at midnight.

  • I don't do New Years. Amateur night, and really, I don't get the big deal about the new year. Usually I'm saying good riddance to the past one and not celebrating it at all. I'm usually in bed before midnight, mainly because I always work New Years morning so my coworkers who do celebrate can sleep in. And it's time and a half.

  • I'm at work with 44 patients in the clinic, lol. Cancer doesn't take a break, so we don't either.

And we don't do much for NYE. It's nice to just sit at home with husband and dogs.

  • I am at work too. Its slow..

As for NYE, FI and I will spend it together on the couch watching fireworks shows..and I may break open the bottle of my favorite bubbly that is sitting in the back of the fridge!

  • Are you guys not off work for Boxing Day??

  • I'm at work too. It's painfully slow. But I'm off Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

Oh that sounds like so much fun! Especially jealous of the hot tub! FI and I are going to go bar hopping in our tiny town with his parents and their best friends and stop at FI's best friends' house along the way. Should be a good time, even though I really just want to stay at home, sit on the couch and drink champagne all night.

I'm at work right now and it's a dead zone here. Only two other co-workers are here with me (one girl was supposed to come in as well but apparently she's a special snowflake and can take days off whenever she wants, despite saying she'd be here. She's been posting on fb all day about having to clean her apartment. Oh the joys of not having your boss work in the same office as you).

  • Working from home today (yesterday, too, which sucked balls)... It's pretty dead, aside from one sales rep who keeps e-mailing me incessantly because she's an idiot who doesn't read anything I send her. I've decided to stop replying for now.

FI and I have agreed to stay in for NYE this year. We don't feel like being crammed into a club with 19-year-olds and plastic cups and half-hour waits for a drink and obscene cover charges... I'm so over it. We also don't want to go the other route and do the dinner-dance thing because it's overpriced and tends to be filled with people my parents' age.

Not a government holiday in the USA.
  • Yea, seems like a lot of us are stuck at work today. I just got back from the gym during my lunch break. I have been bored allllll day. Yea, the more I think of it the less I want to do anything for NYE. I'd rather just pop some bubbly at home now. Maybe invite a couple of friends, and make it a low key evening. I'm so exhausted from Christmas right now, I totally do not want to party any time soon lol.

  • The more I read this thread, the more a nice romantic NYE at home with Fi sounds like just the ticket.

BTW I talked to him today at his break from work, and he said we need to not spend NYE with his family even if we had no other plans.  He said after this holiday, he wants to watch the ball drop on TV and "drink like four bottles of champagne, and don't leave the house."  He's the best.

  • Yep, I'm at work today too.  There is only 1 other person working in my building today... and my building houses 5 different companies.  I have a lot of work that needs to be done, but I'm having trouble feeling motivated to do anything really productive today.  So, I will likely go home early.

  • Totally with you @JCBride2014. I think a nice NYE at home with my FI and our cats sounds like the perfect evening. And if close friends want to come, that would be cool too.

I think your FI's idea for NYE sounds awesome! Yea, I think it's decided, staying in is the ticket for this year lol.

  • nicoann, at this point everyone on my team is gone lol. I would leave, if I wasn't an idiot who misplaced my keys somewhere at home. So now I have to wait till FI leaves his job so I can meet him and we could walk home together. Ugh of all days to decide not to bring my keys with me smh

  • We did about an hour of shopping yesterday, before the rush, thankfully.  Didn't buy anything though.  We leave tomorrow for a week in Cuba, so we'll be there for NYE.  I can't wait to get out of the snow and cold and go somewhere with sun!!  :)
