Where did you get your dress?

Hi ladies. I've got a question for everyone. Where did you go dress shopping? My Mom is coming from NJ to visit in May, and I'm waiting until then to go dress shopping. We are only going to have a couple of days and I want to narrow it down to a few places.

There are a few dresses I want to try on at David's. I've already been to the one on McKnight in Ross. It was on a Sunday, plus the appointment was for the BMs, so the consultant was not very helpful (there were a ton of brides and prom shoppers in the store). I'm thinking it was because she was busy, but I don't know. Does anyone have any experience with the one in Robinson?

Also, there are a ton of other shops to choose from, and I don't know where to start. Any suggestions, recommendations, etc would be great. Thanks!

The only experience I've had with DB in Robinson is ordering a bridesmaid dress for another wedding I'm in. Every time I've been in there it has been CRAZY- if you can swing it I would go on a weekday.

I bought my dress at MB Bride in Greensburg. Sue was my consultant and she was very helpful and not pushy at all, which I was worried about because my budget was under $500. I ended up buying a sample dress that was in really great condition for $350, 60% off the retail price. Since I didn't order a dress there or have alterations done there I can't speak to those things, but all in all I had a really great experience.

  • I went to the White Orchid on Rt 51 in Pleasant Hills.  Went there several times and had a really good experience (so far) and ordered my dress from there :)  I really like maggie sottero dresses and they carried a lot of those and casablanca.  Store doesn't look that big but they had more than I thought (but it's not MB Bride).  Small quiet shop..and would also recommend the weekday. Went during the week and had the whole place to myself pretty much :)  Also thought their prices were fairly reasonable.
There are millions of people in the world, but in the end, it all comes down to one.... Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • I got mine at MB Bride as well...I wasn't really keen on going there at first, as I've heard a lot of horror stories about their customer service, but I didn't have a problem at all. I haven't done alterations or anything yet, so I can't speak to that. I can't remember my consultant's name, but she did very well with the fact that my aunts were pulling all sorts of dresses for me to try on. They really do have a huge selection, and I found a sample dress for $300 that I loved. There's a David's Bridal in Monroeville, so in theory, you could go to MB Bride and then just take the turnpike to David's to hit both in one day, if your mom is only going to be here for a short period of time.
  • MB Bride in Greensburg for me as well.  No issues thus far and I got a great dress for a fantastic price.  I think the best part was the selection - some other stores only had like size 8's which could not really give me a real idea of what the dress would look like on me.  Good luck with the search!!
  • I shopped at White Orchid and Exquisite Bride North (in Gibsonia, there are two locations).

I went to White Orchid first and had a fabulous experience there. Very nice, helpful, friendly consultant, not pushy in the least. There, you show them pictures of the styles you like and talk to them about your preferences and they pull dresses for you. I actually really liked this metohd of selecting dresses, it was less overwhelming. I found a few I liked, but my consultant encouraged me to not rush into a purchase and to really think it over.

Later that same day, I went to Exquisite Bride and also had a great experience. It was a combination of us pulling dresses and my consultant pulling dresses, based on what I told her. It was nice to be able to look around, but it tad bit more hectic and overwhelming. I ended up finding my dress here. Even though I was almost 100% sold on it, they also encouraged me to think about it and come back. I went back in a few weeks later and bought it and couldn't be happier with my pick.

I hope that helps! In my opinion, dress shopping is SO much fun, I hope you have a great experience.
  • For Davids Bridal I recommend the Robinson location. And if at all possible ask for Kim. She is a great consultant. I went to the Robinson location twice and had Kim both time and I was very happy with her. I went to the Monroeville location this past weekend and I was not happy with their service at all.

I purchased my dress at Sorelle Bridal in Washington. I was very happy with their service. I sat down with the consultant before we started looking at dresses and she asked me what I was looking for and what my price range was. She then took me over to the dresses and she asked me if I would be interested in trying on different dresses. After we pulled about 8 she took me into a dressing room to get started. I was very impressed with the consultant because I had a little bit of difficulty getting one dress on and she really worked to get me into it. When I found my dress she let me have my moment walking around hugging my Mom, crying and taking pictures. Then after about 15 min she asked me if this is my dress.

  • MB Bride in Greensburg. I however refuse consultant help with choosing dresses. They don't know what I like, to be honest I'm a one stop shop, know what I want when it comes to dresses type girl. I started alterations, and my dress came in fitting good however we are now doing alterations on my mid section cause of wrinkling issues.. I don't think the seamstress I got works well for me. They had to pull another seamstress in for me last monday and she was awesome! I have my third fitting on monday.

  • The Exquisite Bride, Gibsonia location. I had a great time there, it wasn't crowded at all, and everyone was really helpful! Even though it looks small, they pack a lot of dresses and had almost every one I brought a picture in of. My FMIL also purchased her dress from them.
Davids Bridals are always reallyyyy busy and you definitely don't get enough personal attention. I only went with my bridesmaids to the North Hills location on a weekday but we had almost no help, were chasing down workers, finding things ourselves, and the poor brides who were trying on their dresses had their families sitting on the floor packed with other families. It just wasn't very personal, if that's something you care about...

Monroville was horrible. Actually I don't like Davids Bridal in general. I was a bridesmaid in a few weddings and the bride/bridal parties were not happy! I will never go there again. I got my dress from Bridal Beginnings. I looked at MB Bridal, Exquiste (Murrysville)White Orchid, but Bridal Beginnings was soo helpful and really helped with my decision on my dress. They seem to have more Maggie Sottero dresses then any of the other places and I knew I wanted a maggie dress.

  • Thank you all so much for the information! My Mom saw MB online and wanted to go there. Due to distance, I'd probably not do alterations there if I ended up purchasing.

I'm going to look into the places everyone suggested. There are so many here in town, but you've all helped me narrow down my search. Thanks again =)
  • I bought my dress at M'Kaysha's Bridal Lane in Greensburg. The owner is awesome and it's the only store that was willing to get a sample of a dress for me to try on and didn't charge me an arm and a leg. They include the cost of alterations in with the price of their dresses, so they're a little more expensive. I also went to Bridal Beginning in Mt. Lebanon. They are some not so positive reviews about them, but I had a good experience.

  • I'm going to MB next weekend so I love hearing the positive reviews!

  • I got mine at Kleinfeld in NYC. I tried on dresses at MB Bride in Greensburg.
    DO NOT GO THERE

    They are absolutely terrible!
Not only did the girl not care. She gave me all the wrong dress sizes that made me feel nothing but fat. When I went to kleinfeld it was an amazing experience.

All the girls who work there dont care about the clients...they just stand around and gossip. The customer service is TERRIBLE! I also had trouble with bridesmaid dresses there.

Needless to say my bridesmaids are going to Bridal Beginnings in Pittsburgh. They are fabulous and actually care about their clients. I would def go there for a dress!
  • By the way...MB Bride is not getting a dime from me ever. They also measure you wrong so that you have to do alterations. They measured my one bridesmaid the complete wrong size. And they also did the same to one of my friends who is in another wedding in the summer. Ive heard stories about their dresses not being in on time etc.

Dont think just because other people have gone to them and its in a convienent location that its the only place. It is not. They are horrible.

I also went to White Orchid. They are wonderful. I would try there as well. Unless you wanna have to worry about MB Bride making you uneasy like they did to me.

  • I just made my first appointment and I'm going to MB next weekend.  They have the three dresses I want to try on the most, so they're kind of the logical choice.  Glad to hear the good reviews and I'm sorry to hear the negative one!  My mom wants to go to Kleinfeld's but I can't afford the trip unless we go MegaBus and she won't do that, so...no Kleinfeld's for me!

  • I hate to say it, but I have also had several negative experiences with MB. A few with my sister's wedding and once when I looked at BM dresses there. If anyone wants more info, PM me.
  • I shopped around a lot.  I went to One Enchanted Evening in Wexford, David's Bridal McKnight, Carisle, Bridal Beginnings in Mt. Lebanon, and Exquisite Bride in Gibsonia.  I had great experiences everywhere.  Bridal Beginnings had bad reviews, but I did not have a bad experience there.

Be aware of David's Bridal though.  My bridesmaids ordered their dresses at the McKnight store.  The dresses came in a lot quicker than they were supposed to, which was nice, but 3 out of the 5 girls did not recieve a call saying their dresses were in.  My maid of honor asked about the other dresses when she went to pick her dress up at another DB and that's how we knew they were in.  They seemed to not even care at McKnight when we called about the dresses.  We told them to put a note on the dresses saying we will be there to pick them up the next week because we could not get there when they called.  The next day, we got another call saying we need to pick up the dresses or they will be sent back to the factory.  We would have picked them up on time if we got a call when they came in.  Whoever we talked to did not put the note on the dresses and luckily the girls were able to pick up the dresses quickly.

</div><div>I actually had a very good experiece at this store, for my own wedding and for a wedding I was in last year.</div><div>
</div><div>This just goes to show that just because one person has a bad experience, doesn't mean it's a bad store. If a store has what you're looking for, but has a few bad reviews, give it a shot. Unless a store themselves has ruined someone's dress or something else horrible, at least try it. Just because you try dresses on in a store, doesn't mean you have to buy it there.

  • I went to MB bride, Found my dress there and love it. It's an Allure grown, very embellished and detailed. BUT they oredered it WRONG : I'm short 5'2 and we asked about ordering the dress hallow to hem and they said no standard will be what I need. Well the dress came in and it's 6 inches to long! So to hem it they have to cut apart the design and move it up and around and it changes the look and it won't look like the dress I bought. : They are not very helpful, we asked to talk to a manager about it and she never came up. We waited for 2 hours. We are going in a week to get the dress because I don't trust them. I would NOT reccomand going there. I Would reccomand Once Upon a Bride, my mom got her dress there and the owner is great!
  • I got mine at Bridal Beginnings.  I actually just got the call yesterday that it came in!!  So excited!

  •  I got mine at Klienfelds in NYC - amazing customer service . I was worried due to the success of Say Yes to the Dress - but it was amazing. Everything I had hoped for !

Pronovias in NYC as well was great. They had a beautiful selection of dresses and my sales consultant was great. It came down to two dresses one from Pronovias and one from Klienfelds. The one from Klienfelds was just more me.

I have had friends purchase dresses from White Orchid , MB , Exqusite , Bridal Beginnings , and Sorelli ( Washington PA ) . All with good experiences.

I would recommend going to a few places since everyone has a little different selections !

    Happy dress shopping !
