Single Flower for Bridesmaids in Fall

I am not planning to use flowers for anything other than my bridesmaids and (possibly) corsages for the mothers.  I want each of my bridesmaids to carry just one single flower.  Any suggestions on what type I should use?  I was thinking calla lily or daisy, but I don't know what is really "in season" in the fall.  Also, do I need to reserve this type of thing with a florist ahead of time?  Or can I just pick them up a few days before?  Thanks!

  • I think a large chrysanthemum would be really pretty for fall. Something like the picture below. I think if you're going to use something that's in season and you aren't real particular about the color or look then you would be fine to just go pick something up. If you want something specific though I would talk to the florist ahead of time. For example, if you want them to carry a red rose you're good to just show up at the florist. If you want a bright orange peony then call them ahead of time.

I would reserve them just to make sure that you can get what you want. I also attached a picture that might help a little bit.
  • Gerber daisies are als very nice and come in nice range of colors. A co-worker of mine, her daughter's wedding the BM did a single cala lilly (sp?) and the bride carried 6 of the lillies. Those can get expensive I've heard but they add such an imact with few flowers.

I agree with PP, order your flowers in advance else you will have to go with whatever they happen to have in stock.

Gerber diaisies are nice.  Also, dahlias are one of my favorites.  Yes, you should reserve so that they have them in stock, in the color you want etc.

see the ones on the right. (I think the ones on the left are not real.)

  • I am leaning towards doing single calla lilies I think, but does anyone have an idea of the cost? I heard they can be pricey even for one stem.
  • @chasingsunlight, I would call around in your area, because the prices can vary in different parts of the country and depending on how remote the area is where you live. If you have any nice craft stores in your area, you may want to check out what the silk calla lilies look like & the price is for silk compared to live. If the silk ones look real & their cheaper it would be an easy way to go.
