Tips for Boudoir Photo Session?

I've got the lingerie, I've got the session booked.  Going to get my nails done, my hair and make up will be done the day of... debating a bikini wax or a really good shave...

Anything else I should know/prepare?

I've been looking for some inspiration online, but I know my photographer has done many boudoir sessions and will help guide me with the poses.  But hey, it doesn't hurt to be extra prepared!

Re: Tips for Boudoir Photo Session?

  • I suggest wearing loose clothing if possible on the day-of,  for the 2 hours or so prior to the shoot. Tighter clothing (bras and jeans for example) can leave red marks that won't fade for a while.  As someone who's photographed boudoir shoots, I know I appreciate not having to edit those marks.

On a similar note, if you go the bikini wax route try to schedule it at least a few days before so any redness or bumps are gone in time for the shoot.

I also suggest bringing more outfits than you think you'll need and be sure to lay them all out including any shoes or accessories.  This is one time that it's a good idea to over-pack.

Trust your photographer.  When I posed for a boudoir shoot, I had on a black bra and panties that I loved. The photographer spotted the white tank top I had worn in (and didn't plan on including in the shoot) and had me put it on.  I was doubtful, but those shots ended up being some of my favorites- it took the sexy outfit that was already working and gave me a whole additional sexy-relaxed look. I can't stress it enough- trust that they are guiding you so you look your best!

Other than that, relax, relax, relax!

  • Those are great suggestions!, Thanks, CTYankee.

My photographer emailed me with a few tips also.  I will post here in case anyone checks this thread in the future:
In terms of outfits, its best if you wear something loose and comfortable to the shoot so that you don’t get any funny indentations or lines in your skin from tight clothing (including indentations from socks...sounds funny but it happens). You should bring 2+ different outfits for the shoot, and anything goes. You can use simple things that you already have like cute panties, bras, lingerie, t-shirts, sports jersey, men's dress shirt, men's ties, hats, sunglasses. A lot of girls like to go out and buy some new cute things as well. Some suggestions could be: Victoria Secret, Agent Provocateur, Frederick's, Trashy Lingerie, or anywhere else that sells lingerie. Or you can have themed outfits like a 1950’s pinup style, or anything you want! Don’t forget all of your accessories: jewelry, thigh highs, fishnets, hair accessories, or any props (like I mentioned, feel free to incorporate anything of your man’s that he might LOVE to see in a photo with you). Even if you want to do some with nothing on at all, that is fine too, we will keep it very classy. Also, it is very important to have some super sexy heels with you. You can bring a few different pairs if you’d like. Be sure to have your nails and toe nails done nice since they will be in many of the shots.
I will need you to come with your makeup ready. For makeup, usually something more intense than you do for a regular day works best. Also, if you have a pair of false lashes, they go a LONG way! They don't have to be expensive, and can be a really cheap pair from CVS/walgreens. They make a huge difference in the photos. You will have to come with your hair already done, but a lot of girls just like soft curls.

For posing, I provide you a lot of coaching to get you into poses that you feel comfortable in and that work with your body type and the set we are using. It is also great if you have any ideas for different shots you’d like. You can bring any pictures you would like for inspiration, as well. If you don’t have any ideas that you would like to bring, I will have an “Idea Book” that will have tons of poses, etc to help you. Your session can get as creative as you want. It helps to have some sort of idea for the “look and feel” for the photos for each outfit that you would like, but we can mix and match for each outfit.

Here are some suggestions, but not limited to the below:
Sweet and Innocent- think baking in the kitchen wearing your apron, heels, a smile, and nothing else
Fun and Flirty- in your cutest pair of panties, rolling around in the sheets
Dark and Mysterious- moody lights, dark sexy makeup, and super high heels
Ultra High Fashion – like a page out of Vogue magazine, edgy, with extreme makeup and hair
Themed – can be based around an interest of your, your man’s, or just something fun and different.

I do full editing. I can take care of any scars, acne, imperfections, etc. Once all of the images are done, I will upload the images to a secure/password protected website where you can view your images, pick the ones you'd like prints of, order any additional prints, and decide which ones you'd like to use for your album (if you'd like to add one to your package). I love posting my boudoir work on my blog, but I respect your full privacy. If you give me permission to post a few photos with your face, that is great, but if you would prefer no face shots, that is fine with me (you don't have to decide until the day of your session, it will be listed on my contract and we will discuss).
