In sickness and in health

Well FI is still in the hospital. I finally went out a bit today to get clean underwear which was a huge feat considering the snow storm we are having. I just want him home and healthy but in all honesty I would be surprised if he gets released tomorrow. We have been here since Monday and we are both so ready to be home! Our new couch is being delivered tomorrow so his parents are coming over to hang out while that happens. I plan on cleaning the house while I'm there too so it's all taken care of. We are both so bored right now being stuck in here. I didn't get to start my arm challenge because I'm not doing push ups on a hospital floor. So I'll be behind on that but oh well. I'm more concerned about him. Also the couch I'm sleeping on sucks. Okay I'm done whining :) hope everyone else's new year is going better!

Re: In sickness and in health

  • Aw, Kristen... I'm so sorry that he hasn't been released yet! Has the pneumonia at least improved? We have a snowstorm here, too, so I feel you on that -- it's such a pain to do anything that involves going outside. At least you'll have a new couch to come home to?!

I hope he gets better soon! Sending hugs and good thoughts your way! Xoxo

  • It's improved a bit. They still hear fluid in his lungs so it's not gone. He is still coughing a lot and he gets short of breath real easy and is getting the nebulizer every 6 hours cause he still needs that. He is still on the IV and is getting steroids and antibiotics as well. It's really frustrating right now cause we both want him better.

  • Some improvement is better than nothing! The nebulizer should help to clear it up, and hopefully the steroids and antibiotics kick in soon to bring down the fluid. I'm sure he'll get better soon, and here's hoping that this little hitch in the start of the year is the only dark spot :)

  • Well we had a bit of a set back last night. He is now getting breathing treatments every 2 hrs as opposed to 6 and he is on oxygen. They are bringing in a pulmonary specialist to check him. So we will be here for at least another 2 days I would think.

  • Ugh, that's awful :( Thinking of you guys! Keep us posted on how things go Xoxo

  • You might try either rubbing oregano essential oils on his chest or having him take the oil of oregano pills. It helps with lung function and increases circulation which in turn will help clear out the excess fluid in his lungs. Its worth a shot and can't hurt. My doctor suggested this when I had walking pneumonia. (In addition to proper meds of course)
  • So sorry to hear he's not gotten any better. You live in Northern IL right? What hospital is he at? I'm from Rockford IL and I love Rockford memorial.Wouldnt catch me dead up at Osf Saint Anthonys, probably not even Swedish American.
  • @dluberts, we are in IL and we are in the western suburbs and are at Delnor in Geneva.  They are really doing a great job taking care of him, his body just isn't fighting it.  The night time respiratory therapist (rt) has been a God send.  She has been treating him at night since we came into the ER Friday night.  We went home that same night when they prescribed killer drugs for him, but it just didn't do the job, that is why we went back on Monday and have been there ever since.  But the night time rt has really been great, and she has been watching him like a hawk.

He had a cardiac echo today, and they will do another x-ray (don't know if that has been done yet, I actually had to come home for a bit).  They started to hear fluid in both sides of him as opposed to just one lung.  He is now on oxygen constantly because he went off it for a bit before I left to go home, and I guess his blood oxygen level went down a bit.  Right now, his parents are sitting with him, so he isn't alone right now.  I am doing some laundry so he can have his favorite pj pants and I had to wait for our new couch delivered.  Also he owns his own company, so I'm doing some company work as well for him.  Just trying to clean our place up a bit so he comes home its marginally clean since we left it a mess.  I'm so tired right now, and I just want him better.  I just want to cry cause he is so miserable, and now he is getting depressed over it.  His spirits are so low right now, I just don't know what to do for him.  Thankfully friends of his will be coming over later this evening to cheer him up.  One of them is his best man, so that will be nice :)  I just want to wave a magic wand and have him be better.  Ugh, not how we envisioned our new year to start. :(

  • What a horrible way to start your wedding year. I hope that FI feels better. Please make sure you keep us updated. I'll be thinking of you. Be careful out there too. If you guys are getting the same kind of weather that we are here in Ohio then it's probably pretty nasty outside.

  • sorry to hear, hope he is better soon!
  • I am so sorry to hear this. I hope he gets better soon. I know this is not the ideal way to start your wedding year, but I know it can only get better for you guys. We are here for you and hoping he gets better soon.
  • Well he has a good night last night and a good day today so we should be out of here tomorrow! :) I totally fell apart yesterday at home. He was so sad and bummed yesterday. Having his friends come over definitely helped lift his spirits, and mine. But I was hanging on to a thread yesterday. But I'm happy he should be home tomorrow! Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. He is still healing but that looks like it can be done at home :)

  • We are home!!! It feels so good.  We got discharged late this morning.  FI slept for a few hours once we were home.  He said it just felt good to be in our own bed.  I went and grocery shopped while he slept cause there is a snow storm going on, and will continue for a while dumping something like a foot of snow.  Anyways, thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers! :)
