NWR: Disappointed

I was super excited for breakfast this morning. I made two slices of toast, liver spread on one, cream cheese on the other. I always save the best for last and, although I like liver spread (from years of being forced to eat it for my anemia), I much prefer cream cheese. So I ate the liver spread toast first and it was delicious. I just took a bite of the cream cheese and it is inedible. I'm sad and disappointed now.

BUT I can take away the taste of the horrible cream cheese with a slice of hummingbird cake! FMIL baked one for NYE so she could practice for our wedding.

What are you disappointed about right now?

  • @urbaneca

I am sorry that it was inedible. :(

I am disappointed that my upstairs neighbor got drunk again (she's an alcoholic who was sober for 15 years) and we ended up having to get the authorities involved.

I'm sorry. That's horrible. :( It's always so sad when an addict loses their battle.

  • I'm disappointed that I only have 4 days left of vacation.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I'm disappointed that I started off the new year by already having my first night of total insomnia >_< I'm getting married in 9 days I don't need this right now! grrr argh!
  • I'm disappointed that BF and I are both starting the new year off sick. Pretty darn sick, too.

    What is hummingbird cake, @urbaneca?
  • I'm disappointed that I managed to get the stomach flu that lasts for a week, not just 24 hours.

  • @KeptInStitches: Pretty much the most baller cake ever. Pecans, banana, pineapple... and cream cheese frosting. SO GOOD.

As for me, everything's pretty okay now. I wish we had more time off during the holidays (I just had Christmas Day and New Year's Day off), but whatever. One month until our honeymoon, so I can't complain :D.

She's right, hummingbird cake is ridiculously delicious.

I'm disappointed that my Christmas decorations are still up, house needs cleaning, and I am lacking motivation to be healthy and try and lose some weight. I know I need to but gosh darn it I love junk food. I also with it was September already because I cannot wait to marry my love.

Most disappointed that my green tea is giving me heart burn right now...ughs!
  • I'm disappointed that we're still not pregnant after eight months of trying. But I'm trying to be patient and hopeful!

Hummingbird cake is really a thing where I'm from, but I've always wanted to make one.
  • I'm disappointed that on Monday all my bosses come back and I have to pretend to be happy to see them... I've liked working a week by myself.

  • I haven't heard of hummingbird cake before but it sounds delicious!

I'm disappointed that my car's trunk has decided to stop working again. It refused to shut when we were leaving my parent's last night and all the guys spent an hour outside trying to get it to close. They ended up with a temp fix but now I can't use it. I had it fixed in August so I'm hoping there's warranty on it and they'll fix it for free.

  • I'm disappointed that people keep putting out holiday treats on the table outside my office even though the holidays are over. Darn sugar, flour, and butter calling to me.
  • I am disappointed and downright angry that a local news broadcast inadvertently promoted a PPD. They sold their integrity for cash prizes.

"One Chicago couple didn’t let pushing their car out of the snow stop them from becoming the county’s first marriage of 2014.

Fernando Chaidez and Ricca Rivera were in line at the Cook County Clerk’s Office at 6 a.m. Thursday.

Along with the title for the first marriage of the year, the two walked away with a haul of matrimonial goodies including a weekend stay at the Palmer House Hilton.

They say they plan on having a more traditional ceremony next month.

  • I'm disappointed that my lack of willpower caused me to gain 5 lbs during the holidays, and my continuing lack of willpower will probably result in 3 - 5 more (or until the chocolate runs out).

Right there with you. Everyone sent me chocolate this year and I have no self control when it comes to chocolate.

I hear ya -- chocolate seemed to be the theme. I made my way halfway through a tin of Quality Street (which I barely even like) last night, plus the remains of a bag of Doritos FI bought. There's still a jumbo Toblerone, two giant Hershey with almonds bars, and other miscellaneous chocolate, too. I'm tempted to just throw the whole pile out.

  • I hope all of your disappointments go away soon, ladies! We deserve the best year ever!

@KeptInStitches - I believe it's a Southern thing, and the name comes from it being "sweet enough to feed a hummingbird", but I could be wrong. Texture and nuttiness similar to carrot cake, but flavour like banana bread and pineapple cake had a baby. Traditionally decorated with cream cheese frosting, but FMIL doesn't like cream cheese, so she does browned butter frosting instead which has a subtle salted caramel flavour that somehow makes the whole thing less sweet and takes the cake to a whole other level. I am honestly more excited about the cake than any other aspect of the wedding (aside from, y'know, marrying my FI). We (that is FMIL and I) just need to practice the frosting because we're not sure how well it'll take colour and the colour is pretty important if you're doing a gradient cake!

  • Ooo... nom. Browned butter frosting sounds awesome.
  • I'm disappointed that I couldn't go to the gym this morning because of the weather. I'm also disappointed I even have to go to work on this crappy day, but I don't get paid otherwise and need the money.

I'm disappointed that it's currently -39C (-38F) with windchill, and we're expecting another 15 - 20cm (6 - 8 in) of snow on Sunday evening. Eff winter in Canada (even southern Canada).

  • I'm disappointed my best friend (S) got me a scale for Christmas.

S has lost more than 80 pounds in the past year and a half and has gone from a size 18+ to a size 6. Personally, I've been struggling with weight gain for the past year. She knows I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to lose weight, but she also knows I don't care about the number on the scale so much as how I feel in my body. I have never expressed any interest in having a scale in my house (on the rare occasion I do weigh myself, I do it at the gym). Even when I lost 34 pounds two years ago, I only weighed myself once a month.

I know she meant well, but just...no.
