Happy Thursday

Hi

I'm back at work and so confused at what day of the week it is.  It's Thursday but kind of feels like Monday, I'm just tired, it's been my theme this week.   We are supposed to get a big snow storm tonight into tomorrow, I'm not looking forward to that at all.  I  keep hearing different reports anywhere from 3-5 inches to 6-8.

How is your 2014 starting out?  Mine has been good.  I need to get into shape and start working out again.  I can't believe I get married this year and we finally narrowed down our honeymoon to two places.  Either of which will be awesome, so we're just comparing and doing some pros and cons.  Yay!

Is it 5 yet?

Re: Happy Thursday

  • @peaseblossom55 - looks like we both had the same idea!!  :)
  • I wish it was 5. I really just wish I had the rest of the week off. Work is absolutely blah right now and I hardly have anything to do today. My 2014 is starting out busy. Today I am -

Working out with my co-worker who is also engaged and planning a July wedding.

    Meeting with a potential photographer.

Checking out a bridal salon to see what their dresses look like, how their prices are, and maybe try on something.

Buying a new cell phone because mine fell into a toilet (wonderful) because I had stuck it in my back pocket at work. I can either renew my contact and get one for cheap and lose my truly unlimited data plan that was grandfathered in OR buy a new phone for full price and spend like $400.

@peaseblossom55 What honeymoon destinations are on your short list? FI and I are still narrowing down our possibilities. I kind of want to do something atypical so right now we're discussing either a weeklong trip to the UK or a weeklong trip to the Bavarian region of Germany to do a tour of Munich, see some castles, visit a bunch of other historical sites, stuff like that. We have friends who live in a town in Bavaria who could help us with ideas plus we'd enjoy just seeing them anyway while we're there. My mindset right now is I want to go and have an adventure somewhere. As far as relaxation goes...there's apparently a spa somewhere in Germany where you can soak in a hot tub full of beer.

  • today is my Monday, but THANK GOD it's really Thursday!!!

I had big plans of being back at work today after 2 weeks off, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and ready to go.  instead, Bax kept me up most of the night (he finally settled down at 4:30... I get up at 5:30!) so I am running on low.  I did pick out a fun outfit last night before bed, so I'm wearing a magenta turtleneck and navy/cobalt blue skirt.  I'm hoping that helps me look more awake than I really am!

I bought one of these in pink at Target this weekend (LINK)... I used it today for the first time, and loved it!  I think I need some of those glass straws for during the summer when I want iced coffee instead of hot.

as much as I love the holidays (I start celebrating Nov. 1), I am very glad that things will be settling back into a normal routine.  hopefully my pocketbook can recover, too.  we ate out so much the past 2 or 3 weeks and I'm definitely feeling it (in more ways than one).

I started Insanity with my H last week (we're on week 2).  today is our "recovery" workout.  I'm glad, because I am so tired and I don't know if I'd make it through a full-paced Insanity workout without face-planting into the floor.
  • @lmhollister - what are you going to do about the phone??  oh, and please post pics if you try anything on!!

also, can I come with you on your European/German/wherever tour???
  • @CocoBellaF Wellll looks like I'll just be buying a new phone flat out. I'm not eligible for an upgrade until June this year. I can't not have a cell phone so I guess I'm just going to suck it up.

Go for it! I'm totally going to AW the shit out of it anyway once we get finalized plans in place. We're building a splurge, median, and low-end budget right now so we can figure out our options. We have some priorities...FI really really wants to go to a European soccer match while we're there and we'd also like to do an evening at an opera house or music hall or something. My mom wants to come on our honeymoon too! We actually lived in Germany for three years when I was really young...plus my grandmother is from that region so we have a lot of ties to the area.

  • @TwoDimes - surely there's a larger city within 30 minutes of the small town, right?  you'll be okay...  and good luck for you and your BF!  I hope it all turns out for y'all.

@lmhollister - I WISH!!  that sounds like so much fun!  H and I are hoping to go on our first vaca since our HM and spend a week in Charleston in October, or April 2015 at the latest.  STUPID STUDENT LOANS.  almost have them paid off!!
  • @lmhollister right now we are between Costa Rica & Belize, we wanted to do something different and off beat.  We also wanted to go someplace neither of us have been.  Since I've already seen most of Europe that was out of the question.  I think we are leaning more towards Belize FI has always wanted to see the Mayan ruins and there are so many locations near by to do that.  I really want him to be able to check it off his bucket list and have him do that.

    Anniversary

  • @peaseblossom55 - you can't go wrong with either of those choices!!
  • @CocoBellaF I'd be happy to provide you with recommendations for Charleston if you want. FI and I did a long weekend there last year and loved it! Just PM me what your tentative plans are. We also have some foodie friends who recommended (expensive) but extremely excellent restaurants to us! We're also pretty familiar with some of the highlights and things to do that are worth doing in the area plus places to stay if you like. :) Two of our other good friends did their HM there and had an amazing time!

  • @TwoDimes ...the only good thing I have to say about small towns is I saved a lot of money while living in one cause there wasn't a whole ton to do. Sometimes they have great downtown areas with interesting little restaurants and shops that are fun to support. Small town life also tends to have a stronger community with lots of local resident activities that you can break in to. I'd also look into what sort of local parks or rec areas are around you. There may be good opportunities for camping or hiking nearby. Oh and also, you can ride your bike or walk nearly everywhere which is kind of awesome.

  • Internal clock is all confused. Working from FI's today because of the blizzard. Had an interesting New Year's. Got sick after whatever I ate at lunch hit after I had been drinking. Possibly threw up my birth control pill. Had a good day yesterday though and just going along.

  • Good morning, ladies. I have been off since the 20th and I'm starting to get bored as more and more of my friends and family return back to work. I go back the 6th.

I hear ya @cocobellaf we have been eating out like crazy. With so many relatives and long lost friends popping up around the holidays, it seems like the most efficient and best way to meet up is over dinner and drinks.

@peaseblossom55 and @lmhollister my FI is determined to go to Alaska on our HM. I agreed and now he is researching and planning....win-win for me :-)
  • @TwoDimes - it does sound like a small city!  maybe a slower pace of life will rejuvenate you, though.  plus, if you like to cook, you can really get some practice in!

O/T but I just ordered 2 new barstools!!  we've been using some that we got for free after we first married, but they didn't really go plus they're big and bulky.  I AM SO EXCITED.
  • @cocobellaf woo-hoo for new barstools! I desperately need new dinnerware...it will encourage us to eat at home more too. I guess that's my new years resolution, to eat at home more often.
  • 2014 is starting off rough. BF and I both got sick - pretty darn sick, too. I'm at work because my fever is low enough that I'm not required to stay home, but I hope I can go home at lunch. Wouldn't have come in if I had sick time, anyway. BF's not in much better shape, but his illness seems to be preceding mine by about 12 hours, so we have hope that we will both be doing somewhat better by tomorrow. To make matters worse, I haven't yet hit the point where I'm afraid I'm going to survive this. I think BF is close to that point, though.
  • Good morning, ladies! Hope your new year has kicked off well.

I worked yesterday - yay for overtime! Then had a co-worker come over to meet the pup and just talk about life. Today my winter class was supposed to start, according to our online registration thinger, but my friend just texted and said it apparently doesn't start until Tuesday, which the online syllabus confirms. So I am at home right now taking care of administrative things and watching Maggie catapult herself between the couch and ottoman. I can't even believe the energy this puppy has - especially after waking me up at 5 this morning to throw up all over my bed. >:(

@500days, an Alaskan honeymoon sounds amazing! What has your FI found for you guys so far?
  • H and I normally only eat out on Friday evenings.  I take a break from the kitchen (especially dishes, hate them!) and we pick somewhere fun to eat.

H and I bought this card called "Keep it Local".  the local restaurants in the city take this card and you get discounts (10% off, free drinks, free appetizer, etc.)  we want to use it this year as much as we can when we go out, to try new places and new foods.  I think 300 places around the city take this card!  I'm already trying to decide where we should go tomorrow evening...  there's this fantastic Guatemalan place that sounds good...  or maybe brick oven pizza?  OH, THE CHOICES!!
  • @500days Alaska sounds awesome. I always wanted to do a cruise there some day.... I guess....

@CoCoBellaF both places seem great, either one will make us both happy. Our travel agent gave us resorts in Costa Rica that were really really nice and it's a bit cheaper but Belize has a lot of activities we want to do.

  • @twodimes eventually I'd like to get to whatever destination we don't get to for our honeymoon at some point in time.  A babymoon might be too soon after the honeymoon though :-)

  • Morning!

My middle sister and her BF slept over last night (they're visiting from Boston and are jumping around between family and friends all week). I drove FI to the train station this morning so he could go into the office, and then I smartly decided to go to the supermarket so that I wouldn't have to go out again later in the snow. I wasn't awake enough yet to figure out what to buy for the week, but I bought salmon and broccoli for dinner (diet time, yeah!) and some bagels and cream cheese to feed my sister and her BF. They are still sleeping (the BF is on the couch, and my sister just crawled into bed with me and fell back asleep, how cute), but I am PRAYING that they leave soon and do not get snowed in with me! I want to be able to snuggle on the couch all night and all day tomorrow with FI (who will get to work from home), and I only bought enough dinner for two people...

  • My year has started out kind of crappy, but I'm just going  to try to stay positive!

Yesterday I did nothing but watch TV on the couch with the dog and cat.

This morning, I went to work, the office I had to report to was locked, and I don't have a key for it. There's no security officer at the post near my office, so I have to go to another wing to find a security officer. He doesn't even KNOW where my office is located and tells me to go to the pediatric ER and ask the security officer there. So I go there, and this guy is giving me shit (mind you a lot of the security guards are ex-PD so we get some of the old school cops who think their shit don't stink). I told the guy the office is literally around the corner and he finally obliged.

I get to my office and my computer doesn't turn on. I call the IT department and they send someone down to fix it.

I get started on my work and I get a call from my dog's vet (FI dropped him off to get neutered today) and she tells me she found a heart murmur. It's common for the breed of dog he is, just not at such a young age. She puts an order in for a chest x-ray and of course I have to ask what the worse-case scenario is. She tells me if it's in fact a murmur that his lifespan decreases significantly. I lose my shit and start crying, mind you, there are patients everywhere.

I call FI and tell him what's going on and we made the decision if the x-ray confirms a heart murmur issue that we won't do the surgery and just let him live out his years with his balls intact. The vet calls back, says the chest x-ray is normal but we have to do follow-up xrays like every six months. So the next six months will be anxiety ridden for me, wonderful. The vet assured me that he will be fine and the symptons that would be present, he never has had. I'm just crossing my fingers that it was stress-related.

So now Quigley is getting neuteured and I'm a nervous mom.

@lmhollister I feel like I"m so behind with the wedding planning! I haven't even thought about dresses, tbh I'm anxiety-ridden about the whole thing.

Tonight we're supposed to get a blizzard. If the roads are bad, I'm not coming in, my boss will have a fit but fuck it, fire me.

I have a WR question for everyone. I contacted two vendors in regards to a date availability. One is the photographer that I want to use, she emailed back and said that she'd contact me after the new year. The other one is a DJ that EVERYONE uses around here. I sent them an email around Christmas or so and I havne't heard anything back. Should I contact them this week to set up meetings or am I being too eager? If anything I could wait until Monday, but this is engagement season so I don't want to lose my date on vendors that I really want to use. What say you, NEY?

Sorry about being a Debbie Downer. I have one happy thing though, 8 days until a DC g2g!!!!!

  • @buddysmom80 - my family had a Cairn Terrier who was diagnosed with a heart murmur very young.  we kept her on medication (1/2 a pill a day, don't know what it was offhand) and she lived to be like 13.  she passed away last January.  so Quigley could live a long and happy doggy life!!

re: WR - I would definitely contact the DJ!  maybe give the photographer a day or two more, since you've already made contact...?
  • @buddysmom80 Awww I hope Quigley's surgery goes well! My vet's office was wonderful about the whole thing...I called them after the surgery should've been performed to get an update and the vet personally called me later that day to update me again on how Cinders was doing. The heart murmer issue must be so difficult though. :( I hope everything turns out alright!

Don't feel so stressed about it! Honestly, I'm only looking right now because I have ZERO idea what's going to look good on me and I want to do some preliminary research by myself without the stress of trying on a bunch of stuff in front of people. Especially if I end up looking fat and ridiculous. Sometimes I feel like my ginormous boobs ruin everything.

Finally, do NOT feel bad about contacting those people now. I am too! I have a meeting with a potential officiant next weekend. The people who need to be there the day of...like the photographer, DJ, etc. I am contacting now because October is a popular month for weddings and I want to be absolutely sure that I get them booked while they are still available. Especially with everyone all getting engaged right now!

  • @cocobellaf & @lmhollister thanks for the well wishes with Quigley, the vet should call sometime this afternoon. She usually scrubs in and does 3 surgeries, calls patients and scrubs back in so I told her not to rush because I'm a worrywort!

@lmhollister I might do the same thing to just to see what looks good on me because I have no idea. My go-to color for clothes is black because it hides all the flaws, unfortunately I can't do that in this situation (I would love to, but my mom said no to that). I'm planning on losing some weight and hitting the gym hard-core but I know no matter how much weight I lose, my body type is still the same, so at least if I go to David's or something it'll give me an idea. I'll have to put it on the to-do list.

I will take everyone's advice and call the DJ. The photog I'll wait until Monday. At least we have the venue and JOP confirmed. My JOP is my co-worker in another department and he was more than willing to officiate for us. I'm so happy because he's awesome and does a great ceremony.

  • @buddysmom80 sorry to hear about Quigley.

I would contact the DJ again but I would wait until next week to contact the photographer if you haven't heard back.

  • @amapola14 and @peaseblossom55 FI has looked into flightseeing/glacier walk, world's longest zipline and raft/cave tours. I suggested dog sledding but FI said it had bad reviews online lol. I just hope he doesn't create a super active itinerary since I want to relax too.

@buddysmom80 I have been contacting vendors throughout the holidays, and yes it has been a bit longer to hear back via email. Keep on plugging away!

@hummingbird125 I'm home for the next 4 days and I cannot wait to get snowed in! I have spent waaay too much money over vacation. So bad.
  • @buddysmom80 - be prepared for me to pick your brain about wedding stuff since you are so on top of things already it is infuriating me :-)

  • @buddysmom80, sorry to hear about Quigley and I'll be thinking healthy thoughts for him.

I'm going home. I tried really hard to focus today, but I think I caught the flu (no cubicle farm for me, so I haven't breathed on anyone), and I'm in so very much pain from it. Time to go back to bed. See you all tomorrow, or this evening if I'm perking up better!
  • @buddysmom80, sending Quigley healthy vibes. <3
@500days, you guys are gonna have a GREAT time! Omigosh, But yeah, hopefully he weaves in some downtime too, just reading that made me want a nap!
