DW and at home party... advice?

My fiance and I were just discussing having a destination "wedding" ceremony (with close family) and then having a party (which is like our reception) when we arrive back home to celebrate with our family and friends. We were discussing having a lunch or dinner type party at a banquet venue in our area. The venue tends to be more on the semi-formal/cocktail attire side. Have any of you had experience with doing this? Does anyone have any suggestions regarding attire for myself and my MOH? any suggestions and advice with anything relating to this would be helpful, considering I have not really seen this done before. Thank you!!

Re: DW and at home party... advice?

  • My Fiance and I are planning the same thing. We just want to have a dinner party with those friends who can't make it to our Texas wedding.

We have not yet nailed down an exact plan but the idea I am considering inviting friends to a nice restaurant that has a private dining room so we can have everyone free to mingle and visit without disturbing other guests and if we do it buffet style we wont have strangers scooping up our food. We are also planning to cut and serve a traditional wedding cake.

Then afterwards we will invite everyone to a dance club to kick up the heels and celebrate. All the typical wedding reception moments but without the stress and expense!
  • We are doing the same thing as well. I wanted to keep my wedding low key so a beach wedding in Mexico was the perfect solution for us. We invited everyone that was on our guest list but we know that most people won't come to Mexico. So we decided to have a party in my parent's backyard so that everyone can celebrate with us.

I would say your attire really depends on how you want your event to feel. You can really let your personality show here. I am wearing my wedding dress to the backyard party just because I want to wear it 2 times. Well that and also so that the guests that didn't come to Mexico can see it too. My dress is way more formal than my event.
