It turns out "he got it at Jareds " is not such a great thing! I am writing this to warn anyone interested in getting engaged about picking a ring from Jareds. The experience my fiancee and I have had working with them has been awful.
My fiancee purchased a beautiful ring from the Neil Lane collection and told the sales lady he was unsure of my ring size and he would probably need to bring it back to be resized. She told him it should be fine and sold it to him. Well the ring turned out to 3 sizes too large for me. We went in just before Christmas to have it resized and we were assured by not 1, but 2 salesman that the right size was ordered and they would contact us when it came in. A week went by and we hadn't heard from them. My fiancee called and was told they had no record of our order and that they had no way of tracking their orders. This girl was obviously full of it and didn't know what she was talking about. I decided to go in there myself and find out what was going on.
I went to one of the salesman who had assured us the new ring was ordered and asked him what was going on. He told me he was sorry but they were so busy during Christmas they forgot to order it but said that they would have eventually gotten to it. HOW UNPROFESSIONAL! And I think as a jewelry company you would be aware that Christmas is a busy time for jewelry purchases and be prepared and better organized!
Anyway he called the Jared warehouse only to find that the ring is actually retired and they are not able to order a new one in my size. He said they did not know the ring was retired. How the HELL is that possible? How do they not know this kind of important info about their merchandise!?!
The man was rude and was not taking the stress and heartache this was causing us seriously and tried to make a joke out of it. Our exchange ended with me in tears!
Finally the ring was ordered and we were told it would be shipped on Monday and be in no later than Friday due to the New Year holiday. Again we had not heard from them by Friday afternoon so we went up there. The inventory specialist didn't know what we were talking about and said that no rings had come in. Obviously this company cannot communicate with its own employees very well. How does the woman who is supposed to be receiving my ring not know about our situation?! Then she said she would go double check her office just to make sure. She found it. The ring had been sitting on her desk the whole day! No one had made an effort to call us. This company is unorganized, unprofessional, and not worth spending a cent!!
After two weeks of dealing with these imbeciles I am finally going to get my ring, but I'll be damned if we get our wedding bands or any other jewelry there ever again.
Re: Beware of Jared Jewelers!
True this! There is one McDonald near here that only gives me 2 pickles slices, and another one that gives me 3. I'm like I want my damn pickle slices, so I always go to that one. But any chain like there, were the owners own it will have different styles, because the owners may have different ways of doing things. They may hire employees that aren't as qualified so they don't have to pay them as much, ect. Just write off that store, send an e-mail to the company with a complaint. And only go to other stores. Other ones may give you a much better experience.
Edited: I've been lurking around the site for a while as my fiance and I plan and just wanted to add my 2cents.
I agree with not writing off Jared's as a whole. FI ordered my E ring from them and they have been nothing but wonderful. Every time I go in to get it inspected they are kind and courteous and when I have it rhodium plated (white gold, it rubs) I get it back same day. There has never been an issue.
Try a different store.
I think I'd have a hard time buying a diamond online because you cannot SEE the diamond. My ring is an SI-1 but where the inclusions are, it doesn't bother me or distract from the ring. It also has a small feather that my jeweler was able to cover up with one of the prongs. My diamond happens to be a hearts and arrows -- She was able to show me the diamond in the little hearts and arrow viewer. If it wasn't my engagement/wedding ring, I'd have no problem buying from Amazon... I think I just want to be able to see before I buy though.
