For those not wearing a veil...

Show me what you are doing instead!

I had been planning to wear a short veil, but when I tried some on at my fitting, my mom thought maybe it wasn't a good match with my dress. I am the most indecisive person ever and am not super attached to the idea of a veil - I just kind of assumed I would wear one, but now I am open to other ideas. I am definitely wearing my hair down & curled so I am looking at hair vines, tiaras, or flowers (the bottom of my dress is covered in appliqued flowers so this might work).

Please show me your ideas!

Re: For those not wearing a veil...

  • I had mixed thoughts on a veil and in the end decided against one because I couldn't find one that I liked with my dress and lace bolero jacket.

I bought a pearl and rinestone hair comb off of Etsy to add some flair to my head.

  • I never wanted a veil to begin with so I'm going have a fascinator-ish headband.  I don't have picture since I'll be making it myself and my inspiration image is actually rather ugly (it just has certain elements I like). I also have short hair that I plan  on getting curled for a vaguely vintagey look.

A friend of mine found some really amazing feather headbands and clips on etsy.  If that's something you'd be interested in I can probably track down the link.
  • I wore a pearl and rhinestone headband.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I'm just going to put some pearl/rhinestone/flower-motif pins in my hair (curled, half up/half down. I've never been much of a veil fan. After seeing my FSIL's veil whip around in the wind at her outdoor wedding this summer (we're having an outdoor ceremony as well), it solidified my decision.

  • I used this tutorial (LINK) to make silk flower hair clips.
  • I'm going to wear the jeweled headband that my mom wore when my parents got married.
  • I'm not a fan of veils but I am undecided regarding other options. I like the idea of a flower or jewel clip.
  • im on the fence about a veil myself.  I originally though I would get one, elbow length.  Then the consultant where I purchased my dress suggested to me a longer once because there is a lot going on already where the elbow length would hit.  I've been looking a lot on etsy and there are ton's of stuff.  I'm thinking of either a rhinestone headband of some sort, or flower clip...I plan to wear my hair up.
  • I wore my hair twisted and braided in a side-ponytail.  I had about six crystal and pearl hair spirals down the right side of my head and also in the back.   These:

In hind-sight, I sort of wish I'd worn a veil, just because when else are you going to get to wear a veil?  But I procrastinated and didn't get one ordered (yay, getting married on Christmas break between semesters.)  But, I'm not that sad.
  • lovesclimbing - those are so pretty! Where did you get them? Do you have a picture of your hair?
  • My dress has a very intricate and detailed lace back so I don't want to cover that up with a veil, even for the ceremony. I'm doing a beaded headband but it's a big thick ribbon so you can see it from a mile away. I'm not a fan of the tiny headbands you can barely see lol.

  • I did a headband that had little metal flowers and jewels on it that kind of matched the embroidery on my dress. There's tons of stuff on the internet, although I think you have to be prepared to order a lot and then return a lot. I bought several headbands, tried them all on with my dress, and kept the one I liked best.

  • I am having an up do and putting small flower pins in my hair.

The first time I tried on a veil, with my mom & sister, we all started laughing and unanimously decided that I shouldn't wear a veil.  It just wasn't me.  I also want to leave my hair down and curled.  I plan to do a rhinestone barrette, similar to attached photo.

I also like the idea of incorporating flowers, but I'm still not sure about that one.  I don't really want a flower barrette and think doing both would be a bit too much.

www.affordableelegancebridal.com has a lot of great looking accessories for good prices. I haven't ordered anything from them yet, so I can't vouch for quality (although it only needs to last a day, right?).  But, I think I'm going to use them for jewelry.

  • I'm wearing a blush flower in my hair, with my hair in a side bun.

  • I'm planning on having my hair in an updo with flowers in it.

  • I'm wearing a vintage inspired headband that has similar beading to the beads on my dress. I found it on eBay as everything on Etsy was too expensive.

  • I have been looking on Etsy at hair vines, flowers, tiaras, headbands... you name it!

perry7285 I feel like I need to order a bunch of things and try them and Etsy isn't the best place for that.

Anyone have website suggestions that let you return?

My mom actually bought them.  I don't know where.  They weren't very expensive, I think she got them from Icing/Claires.

This picture, you can kind of see my hair.

  • I got clay hydrangea hair pins (to coordinate with the flowers in my bouquet) from Petal by Petal on Etsy.  They look just like the real thing, but will hold up much better (no wilting, etc. at my summer outdoor wedding) and were really affordable. I'm really pleased with the way they look and all of the site reviews were great.  She has lots of types of flowers designs on the site and will do custom colors and custom orders too.

  • I wore an ivory flower/feather fascinator with pearls and a little bit of bling.  You can sort of see it in this photo, when we were talking to our caterer.
  •      I'm wearing either a jeweled headband or a tiara. My gown doesn't have a train, I'm using a vintage 1930's bias cut evening dress pattern and the veil doesn't really go.
