Would you if you could: Gown

Is there anything about your gown you would have changed if you could go back and do it again?

Re: Would you if you could: Gown

  • I absolutely loved my dress. A family friend made it for me. The only thing I would go back and change is to make it tighter around my chest. I was so worried that it would be too snug that she didn't fit it as tight as she normally would and I ended up losing a few pounds so it was slightly roomy!

  • I haven't chosen my dress yet, but I've already gone through about 6 designs. I think I've settled on one now (FI wolf-whistled when he saw it, which he never does) so I need to get in touch with the two potential dressmakers and get quotes once I'm back from my planning-break.

  • Well, one thing I would change about my dress is if it wasn't so darn poofy. According to my SIL though once it's ironed it won't be so poofy.. but out of the bag..holy poofy. Imma see if there's something my seamstress can do about it, maybe make it detachable.. or I won't wear the skirt underneath it that is suppose to make it even more poofy. At it's state right now, IDK how my fiance and I will walk down the aisle together....granted, I wanted a poofy elegant ball gown and that's what I got!

The one thing that really helped me picking dresses was to figure out what I envisioned it to look like. I wanted lace, a train, beading, something that didn't make me look...fatter, and the train to have lace around it.

By me knowing that, when I went dress shopping it was pretty easy to nix out dresses. I know you're having yours hand made, but just a thought for that too :) Unless, you don't know how you envision it, then I suggest going dress shopping everywhere and figuring it out lol

  • I really loved my dress, but if I could change it, I wish it was a little less low-cut in the front. Also, I had it taken in so it would really show off my waist, but then I had my period on my wedding day and it barely fit with the bloating. It would have been nice if it was just a little looser.
  • I'm having the normal -point of no return- jitters. Glad I'm not the only one who would change something to their gown. It's too late for me to do any more adjustments, and realistically I know I'm just being nit picky. I was never able to find "the dress" so much as I found the dress of the moment and got pressured into purchasing way too early. The dress is beautiful, I will be beautiful in the dress, the dress was just such a pain in the arse with getting it temple ready that It lost any of its appeal a long time ago.

I think my problem is that up until I met FI, I really didn't think I would ever get married. My friends would all dream about their weddings, and I never did, so I don't have that vision for myself. If anything I would probably go for jeans and a t-shirt if I could, but family...

The dress I have in mind now though is quite plain, but still looks enough like a wedding dress that my grandparents won't have a heart attack. And it's corseted so it should make my waist look really good, and hopefully draw attention away from my arms, which I hate.

  • I loved my dress, but I wish that the bolero I had with it had longer sleeves. I got cold :(.

  • There is nothing I would have changed about my dress. Even looking back at pictures I am happy with the dress I chose. It fit my body well and made me look slimmer than I actually am.

My only advice for those who haven't picked a dress yet- Keep an open mind! The dress I chose was not a style I normally would think I could pull off, so I almost didn't even try it on. Dresses look different on you than they do online or on models. Try everything!

  • I really, really loved my dress and can't think of anything I would have changed about it. It's exactly the dress I pictured myself wearing before I found it and I was comfortable in it all night/day.

at first glance the barrels make you look like yall have halos lol Love it.
  • I love my dress.  I wouldn't change it, but not sure that I'd pick it again in 5 years if I ever had to get married again, if that makes sense??

  • @GrrArgh - Ha! Perfect little angels ;)

I've also never envisioned myself in a dress so I have no idea what I want to have made but I think all wedding dresses are pretty. Just not for me. My friends think I'm crazy. I'm going to try some things on to narrow down a shape to take to my dressmaker. Where did you start?
  • I haven't bought my dress yet, but I know the dress I will buy isn't going to be what I have always envisioned.  I never wanted to wear a white dress.  Growing up I never fantasized about my wedding, so I had no white dress princess dreams.  I look great in dove grey, silver, and lavender, so when I started thinking dresses, I wanted a color or a BAM silver dress, like crazy silver.

Well, Fi is the one who has fantasized about his wedding since he was a kid and always pictured his bride coming down the aisle in white.  So we are compromising and I'm getting a white-ish dress, probably a pale blush.  I'm sure it will be gorgeous and classic and there's nothing to regret about that choice, but I'm super into fashion and I think my friends will actually be surprised I'm wearing a "traditional" almost-white dress.

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • Not at all. The only issue I have is wanting to have about 5 other weddings so that I can buy 5 more dresses. I am obsessed with wedding dresses.

  • I, honestly love my dress. Originally I thought I was going to get Alfred Angelo 215, then I ended up buying Allure 8862. I am much happier with the dress decision. I love it. Wedding was 7 months ago, no regrets.
  • Loved my dress.
I had some doubts due to my mother (who couldn't understand why I wanted something so "plain" and insisted that I needed a shrug or something), but I picked that dress because it was perfect for me.
I wanted something simple because I had made a brooch bouquet for myself, AND a necklace, and THAT was what I wanted to stand out.
I never had the "Say Yes To The Dress" crying moment personally (and I tried on nearly a dozen gowns. My mom cried at OTHER dresses).
As we got closer I had doubts about my black lace jacket I had gotten. I wore it for the reception and people LOVED it. I had SO many compliments (and still get some from wedding guests).
And now I AW some photos:
  • I loved my dress. But if I could change it I would go with a pink dress like I had wanted and not given in to my mother and mother in law.

I am obsessed with my dress (currently sitting in my closet waiting). It is entirely the opposite of what I imagined but I've heard that a lot of ladies had the same occurrence with their dress. I was going for illusion neckline, A-line, and lace but what I ended up with is a poofy ball gown. I adore it though.

I'm not really a frou frou kind of gal so it's really different for me. It makes me feel like a million bucks. I was alone when I bought it as my mom lives out of town and my bridal party was all working.

There were two other girls in the store, one looking for her wedding gown and one supporting her. They had a consultant with them and then I was working with the shop owner. As soon as I tried on the dress I saw a girl in the mirror behind me and heard 'hold on I have to see this girl in this dress!' Next thing I knew both girls, the consultant, and owner were staring at me telling me 'that dress is fate.' It's probably only exciting to me but I don't think I've ever caught other people's attention like that when trying on clothes. It felt amazing.
  • I love my dress I can't wait for mine to come in I think in February or March, no regrets about it at all.  I can't wait to wear it.

  • The seamstress couldn't get my zipper to lay completely flat. After 3 tries/ fittings, I finally let it go. I wish it would have lied flat bc I notice it in some of the photos, but I'm sure nobody else does unless I point it out :-p Otherwise I wouldn't change anything.

  • I love my dress and there isn't anything I would change about it.

I love my dress, but I am changing the hem. It has a bubble hem, which was the one thing I knew I didn't want in a dress, but I love everything else about it. I've seen other brides change the hem on it, and I'm really excited to wear it!
