June 2014 Weddings

New here!

Hi ladies! I'm new to this board. Just got engaged in December and due to work schedules plus me starting school in the fall, we have decided to get married this summer. Our tentative date is June 28, which is one of the dates our church has available. I've been looking for reception venues but my dream venues are already booked (of course).

The venues I've found that are available are more banquet hall-y, which is not really my style or what I had in mind. (I initially wanted a rustic barn reception.) There is one venue though that's really glamorous. It's a dance studio in a big shopping plaza. It has really pretty up lighting, chiavari chairs, and gorgeous chandeliers. It's also right next to a really modern bowling alley. Anyway, the church ceremony is at 2 and the latest it will go is 330. It's about 20-30 minutes from the dance studio.

My questions: since the studio doesn't have a dedicated cocktail area, would it be crazy to rent a room at the bowling alley and do cocktails at the bowling alley before moving to dinner and dancing at the dance studio? If I did cocktail hour at the studio, I'd have to rent more hours which are more expensive there than renting a room at the bowling alley. Is this a totally dumb idea????

TIA!!! Sorry this was so long. I'm starting to freak out about how much there is to do and how much we will have to spend ahhhh

  • I don't want it to be too elegant, I'd like more of a laid back party atmosphere. The studio rents for a couple hundred extra per hour, whereas the room at the bowling alley is $100 for two hours. They offer several snack packages for parties and an open bar too. (I still don't have prices for these but I can't imagine anything too outrageous.). My initial thought was, how fun-bowling, snacks, and drinks before dinner and dancing. I'm not super concerned with the flow of the night cause the bowling alley is literally right next to the studio in the same plaza so once all the tables/chairs/decor etc are ready at the studio how hard would it be to make an announcement for everyone to move next door to the reception site??

My concern is with the feel of the evening, like you mentioned. I don't want a super fancy night. I can't figure out how to de-glam the studio or up-glam the bowling alley lol
