Churches and costs

What do you all know about the cost of using a church for a wedding? I am having a lot of trouble and have found no church that charges less than 800 dollars to use their building (we have our own pastor). I am shopping around, because my FH is a member of a small church that I don't think is going to work. I am just wondering if this is the norm in our area or not... TIA!

Are you getting married in Sioux Falls? We are getting married in a small town on the border of south and north dakota and I'm unsure what our church fees are but I am sure they wont' be more than a couple hundred at the most.  The church that is doing our marriage prep in Spearfish only charges $150. $800 sounds pretty outrageous!

That isn't an unreasonable amount.  Most churches will charge a fee if you come in from outside, especially as a non-member.

Especially with any of the larger churches in Sioux Falls, their prices will be a little bit more just because of everything that needs to be included in that price: officiant, organist, sound person, janitor, etc. Usually churches do a member discount, but especially as a non-member, I would expect it to be about that much.

My fiance and I are getting married at First Baptist in Sioux Falls.  We are not members and also had our own pastor and they will rent their facilities for $600.  The chapel is great and the women who are the "planners" are really sweet.  If you are not a member you are only able to reserve 6 months in advance.
