Picking a date just to reserve the photographer

I have always wanted a particular photographer to be a part of my destination wedding.  Finally I'm engaged!!  So, I've contacted her already and she has one spot left next year for a destination wedding, between June-December.  She wants to know the date of the wedding and then we can proceed with everything else. However, I cannot for the life of me decide on a date or a location.  But I am freaking out because I don't want another person to come along and book with her and then I have to wait another year. Do I just decide on a date and book with the photographer and then book with the resort/location afterward?  Or am I crazy?

Re: Picking a date just to reserve the photographer

  • I knew the two week period I wanted to get married and the specific day would revolve around the photographer if needed.  My FI was the one to finally pick a day, so we went with that.  I asked the photographer to pencil me in, then I dealt with the ceremony and reception.  And while I was dealing with the locations, the photographer did get another request for that day, but because I called first, he gave me first right to refuse.  The same thing happened with my baker.  They penciled me in, and it was only when they got another request for the day that they requested a deposit.  Luckily for me, EVERYTHING fell into place and I got every location and vendor I wanted, all on the date hubby picked!  Even though FI hasn't had a hand in to many wedding decisions, I'm happy that we're having a day that is important to him.  But he did know that it was depending on the photographers availability.  The photographer is so important... it's the area we are totally splurging!  (FI thinks I'm crazy, but he wants me to be happy)
