Alteration Costs

Hi everyone, I was just wondering what everyone's average alteration costs were? I know it all depends on what you get and where you get it, etc. I'm just trying to figure out a rough estimate. I'm going dress shopping at a charity gown sale this weekend, and I know I'm at least going to have to get it sized down because they won't be selling my size. I just want to make sure I leave enough room in my budget for the alterations. Any input is greatly appreciated, thank you :)

Re: Alteration Costs

  • My alterations ended up being about $250.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I had my dress hemmed, cups sewn in, the straps shortened, and the waist taken in. It was $75.
  • I had it hemmed, bustled (simple two-point bustle), the straps taken up slightly, the stitching on the bottom part of the waist band ripped out (so it was only attached at the top instead of both top and bottom to get rid of a pucker) and the waist taken in for about $65 (crinoline rental included in that cost.) My dress was simple, nothing crazy complicated, but still, it was a steal!
